Jimmy Fallon, ‘Star Wars’ Cast Recreate Classic Tunes From The Series

Jimmy Fallon and the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens won’t have to travel to a galaxy far, far away to have a little musical fun with the iconic film series’ sound track.

Debuting this week on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the host joined his house band, The Roots, and several veteran and new stars to the seventh installment of Star Wars in recreating the theme song and other well-known tracks, according to the Huffington Post.

The video features Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford for an a cappella tribute to Star Wars.

After Jimmy initially appeared with only his house band, the Star Wars standouts began joining Fallon. In the next scene, Daisy Ridley joined in with the cast of The Tonight Show.

The scene involved Adam Driver, the actor who plays the villain in the Star Wars movie. Driver led the group in the intimidating composition for the Dark Side with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots dressing as Stormtroopers.

Other scenes included cameos for Boyega, Isaac, Driver, Christie, Nyong’o, Fisher and Ford. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon even included spots for R2-D2, C3-PO and Chewbacca to ensure the entire ensemble from Star Wars was featured.

After the segment, Jimmy discussed the difficulty in putting together the performance. The planning stages Fallon detailed made the execution sound more complicated than building a space cruiser, the Huffington Post explained. The Wall Street Journal was complementary of the segment.

“Special props go to Boyega for his excellent vocal percussion work, Driver and Christie for their rendition of the Darth Vader theme music – and the aforementioned droids, who handled that unmistakable Cantina riff,” writer Sarene Leeds penned.

Leading up to this weekend’s release to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jimmy Fallon has had several segments and guests to promote the upcoming film. Fallon recently interviewed stars Harrison Ford and Daisy Ridley, giving them several opportunities to promote the seventh installment in the series.

Daisy Ridley appears early on in the musical reprise. Ridley is starring in her first major role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, winning the role through J. J. Abrams’ search for an unknown to led this epic story.

The move to have Daisy Ridley as the hero signals a sharp contrast from the previous six Star Wars movies that have been male-dominated films, the New York Post documented. Ridley takes the Star Wars films in the path of The Hunger Games, riding the waves created by Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen.

From Supergirl to Wonder Woman to Jessica Jones, several recent film and television characters are strong women. Films featuring young, strong female leads are challenging the industry’s status quo, according to a previous report by the Inquisitr.

Even rhetoric surrounding the film has changed. The diverse Star Wars cast were called upon to explain diversity, and the actors responded by deriding critics who questioned the casting decisions.

Singing is a staple for Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. One of his most-memorable segments was in a lip sync battle Jimmy had against Ellen DeGeneres. The two talk show hosts created comedic gold as DeGeneres dominated Fallon.

Another memorable moment for Jimmy was a musical impression game against recording artist Ariana Grande. Grande owned her impressions, leaving Fallon in awe while mimicking Celine Dion and Britney Spears.
