Lamar Odom Struggles With Severe Memory Loss, Can’t Remember His Own Name

It’s been a couple of months since Lamar Odom was found passed out at a Nevada brothel after overdosing on various drugs, and his journey down the road to recovery has been one with numerous ups and downs.

Doctors expected the worst of Odom’s situation, even going as far as to say that the former LA Lakers star would eventually “not make it” or would end up in a vegetative state if he even survived the ordeal. However, the recent progress he’s been making – walking and having short conversations with family and friends – has been a sign of hope that perhaps someday, with enough care and attention, Lamar Odom will go back to his normal self.

The most recent news about Odom’s health, sadly, has not been good, as sources close to him claim that the extent of his brain damage has caused Odom to struggle to remember even his own name at times.

“He forgets a lot of people’s names, sometimes even his own. He definitely has some memory loss,” an insider shared Entertainment Tonight.

It is also being reported that Lamar Odom still struggles with basic motor activities like speaking and walking, and despite his slow progress, there is some form of improvement that can be seen every day.

Fortunately, the 36-year-old NBA star gets a lot of support from his former family, the Kardashian-Jenners.

Estranged wife Khloe Kardashian put their divorce proceedings on hold following Odom’s collapse in October. The couple had previously signed divorce papers in July of this year, but a court dismissed them upon Khloe’s request so that she could retain the legal right to make medical decisions for Odom while he recovers.

The rest of the Kardashian-Jenner family have also shown Odom a lot of moral support during his hospitalization.

Last month, Kim Kardashian and her family were spotted paying Lamar Odom a visit at the Cedars-Sinai hospital, where they reportedly stayed for three hours. Odom had been experiencing severe memory loss that prevented him from recognizing close family and friends, and his doctors were hoping that Kanye West’s presence would trigger some memories.

Khloe Kardashian, on the other hand, visits Lamar Odom regularly, sources say, although not as often as his first month of treatment.

Prior to Odom’s drug overdose at the Love Ranch, Khloe had been dating 26-year-old Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden, but she had to pause their relationship to attend to Odom’s needs. Speculation of Khloe breaking up with Harden and reconciling with Odom circulated, but the third Kardashian daughter quickly shot down the rumors.

James Harden has expressed his full support to Khloe and claimed that he has no “bad blood” towards his girlfriend’s ex.

To further prove that Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom are not likely to resume their marriage, the Strong Looks Better Naked author temporarily left Odom’s side at the end of October to spend time with Harden in Houston and watch him play.

According to People magazine, Khloe confirmed that she is not getting back with Lamar Odom and that it’s James who she really wants to be with.

Even after signing the divorce papers, Khloe Kardashian had always stayed connected to Lamar Odom – often to her family’s disapproval – and even stated that she would “always love Lamar” no matter what.

Khloe’s feelings towards her relationship with Odom have started to change, however, and it seems like she is finally “over” the idea of them being a family.

In another preview clip of this Sunday’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Khloe can be seen talking to older sister Kim Kardashian-West about Lamar Odom.

Kim remarks that with everything that Khloe has been through, including her numerous work commitments and her relationship with James Harden that she has finally moved on from Odom.

Khloe then explains to her sister that all the care and attention she has been giving to Lamar Odom has been mistaken by her family as being romantically attached to him.

“Because you mistake my kindness for me going back with someone,” Khloe says. “You don’t marry someone and then you could cut them out of your life that easily. I care about Lamar so I want the best for him. I want the best for his wellbeing,” said Khloe of her dynamic with Lamar Odom.
