Chris Herbert’s Facebook Post About Racist Muslim Expectations Goes Viral

There’s a Facebook post written by Chris Herbert that’s going viral. Herbert was only 19 years old when the British soldier experienced an injury that would change Chris’ life. Herbert was serving in Iraq, reports CNN, when a bomb exploded near him and caused Chris to lose his right leg.

Herbert’s response on Facebook to those folks who expected Chris to lob plenty of racism towards Muslims has brought plenty of attention to Herbert for the down-to-Earth pragmatism that Chris published. Considering the fact that Herbert experienced personal injury and also lost one of his soldier mates named Private Luke Simpson, Chris’ words are especially touching.

Published to Facebook on December 8, at 6:07 a.m., Chris’ post has been shared more than 150,000 times around the world by Facebook users — well beyond his Dodworth, United Kingdom, location. Chris began the Facebook post with the reasons why he was writing the Facebook post to begin with: in order to vent his frustration at the folks who expected Herbert to be bitter and racist towards all Muslims in the wake of his injury.

“Getting frustrated by some people expecting racism from me, because I got blown up. Here it is: Yes. A Muslim man blew me up, and I lost my leg.”

Herbert then went on to list all the things that Muslim men and women did that Chris said were positive, like the Muslim man who wore a British uniform and lost his arm the same day that Chris lost his leg. Herbert wrote next on Facebook about the Muslim medic who rode in the helicopter that rescued him from the field after his injury, and the Muslim surgeon that operated on Chris and helped to save Herbert’s life.

Not to mention all the Muslim nurses and healthcare professionals that helped Chris after he returned home to the U.K. — Chris wrote on Facebook about his amazing rehab team. The little things Herbert wrote on Facebook reverberate, like the Muslim cab driver who told Herbert he didn’t have to pay for the taxi ride when Chris came home from war and joined his dad for a beer.

Then there was a Muslim physician who helped Chris and his father in a pub, comforting the duo about medications and side effects from Herbert’s medications.

That’s when Chris lists next all the unfortunate things Herbert said white Britons did to him, shockingly including one man Chris wrote spat on his girlfriend.

“A white brit spat in my girlfriend’s face for ‘f****** a cripple when you could have me [him]'”

The shocking events didn’t end there, Herbert wrote in his viral Facebook post. Chris wrote that another white Brit pushed his wheelchair out of the way so that the man could get on an elevator before Herbert. There was another man who Chris wrote yelled at his father for parking in a handicapped spot when Chris was coming home.

Herbert also noted that plenty of white Brits helped in his recovering, and that his Facebook post wasn’t meant to spew hate towards white British people. It was a Facebook post that simply showed evil can come in any package, not one specific race of people or faith group.

Chris’ profanity-laced Facebook post got right to the point.

“Point is, f*** off. I know who I dislike, and I know who I don’t. I know who I appreciate, and I know who I don’t. If you want to hate an entire race of men and women for the actions of a few d***heads feel free, but don’t push your views on me, thinking I am an easy target because one d*****bag decided it was my day to die.

“Blaming all Muslims for the actions of groups like Daeshe and the Taliban, is like blaming all Christians for the actions of the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church. Get a grip of your lives, hug your family and get back to work.”
