Maks Chmerkovskiy Knew For Years He Wanted To Marry Peta, Val Shares His Thoughts
Last night, word came out that Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are engaged. This couple from Dancing With the Stars is a fan favorite and the news spread fast. Now Maksim is speaking out to US Magazine and saying that he actually knew he wanted to marry Peta a few years ago. These two dated back in 2012 and 2013, but split and then got back together about a year ago. It sounds like Maksim has always know that she was the one for him.

Maksim actually proposed to her at the Sway: A Dance Trilogy performance at the Olympia Theater in Miami Florida on Saturday night. Peta shared that she was totally shocked, but couldn’t be happier. The DWTS family was all behind them as he proposed, getting the chance to watch it all go down. After the big proposal, Maksim shared his thoughts about proposing to Muragatroyd.
“I kind of knew a couple of years ago/ But it’s a process. With this family, the hardest part of the process was to keep it a secret. …this was definitely the best decision I ever made.”
The two were all smiles after the proposal and looked like they couldn’t be happier. Of course, the second Maksim proposed Peta said yes to him. Maks explained that Peta was already family and this is just a formality. His brother Val Chmerkovskiy spoke out and shared pretty much the same thing.
“The thing is, Peta’s been part of the family for so long, it was a natural thing, but it was [also] an overdue thing. We were all waiting for it. But I think when it happens it’s fairly surreal and it’s beautiful.”
Val Chmerkovskiy also went to his Instagram to share his thoughts on the engagement. He posted a picture of the big proposal along with this caption.
“I love the two of you with all my heart. you have my brothers loyalty, heart. his one and only for the rest of his life. you’re family now and that makes you my sister, the second most important woman in my life. what’s mine is yours. Forever and always. Petachka your team got numbers now #trapqueenfolife #famovereverything @petamurgatroyd @maksimc”
In May of 2015, Pet and Maks were spotted out together holding hands once again. The two had been back together for a bit, but were not sharing it with the world. Hollywood Life shared that this was more than a year after Maks and Peta had split up, but they were back together once again. From what Maks said, he has known Peta was the girl for him all along. A source explained that at this time Maks and Peta had been together for a while, but he just wasn’t quite ready to go public with it.
Maks briefly dated Kate Upton while he was split from Peta. Rumors also flew that he was dating Meryl Davis while she was his partner on Dancing With the Stars, but these two never admitted that anything was going on between them. There are always random rumors about people who dance together on the show, but they are not true very often. In the end, Maks found his way back to Peta, and now the two are engaged. No news on the wedding yet, but you know she will make a beautiful bride and hopefully they will share details with all of their fans.
