Raging Bull 2: Scorsese Classic To Get A Sequel

A sequel to Martin Scorsese’s classic film starring Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci is getting a sequel. But before you get too excited about Raging Bull 2 you should know that Scorsese, DeNiro, and Pesci have absolutely nothing to do with it. Instead, the movie will be directed by Martin Guigui and will star Mojean Aria, William Forsythe, Joe Mantegna and Ed Begley Jr.

According to the Guardian, Raging Bull 2 will be both a sequel and a prequel to Scorsese’s classic. Aria will play a young Jake LaMotta and Forsythe will play the older version. Scorsese, DeNiro, and Pesci may not be in the new film but LaMotta, according to a press release, was on set to help out.

The press release reads:

“This film may quench the unsatisfied thirst that movie goers desire to see more of this true middleweight boxing legend as well as newcomers who want to see an action film that shows how a man’s inner drive can overcome life’s obstacles. Raging Bull II fills in the gaps and allows us to get to know Jake LaMotta. It answers such questions as what happened to him or what he was like as a youngster. LaMotta himself was present and providing guidance before and during the shoot.”

What do you think about Raging Bull II?

William Forsythe said that it may be difficult to step out of the shadow of the original, but said that the new movie has a lot of heart.

Forsythe said:

“I understand that (people may be nervous about a sequel) because it’s such an iconic, beautiful and amazing first film — one of the great films maybe of all time. But our story has a lot more heart and I think it’s a beautiful depiction of who Jake really is.”

If that doesn’t put you to ease, you should know that director Martin Guigui is certainly the man to helm Raging Bull II. After all, did you the cinematography in National Lampoon’s Cattle Call?

Guigui has moved on to more serious films, like Dennis Quaid’s latest Beneath the Darkness, and maybe he’ll be able to impress people with Raging Bull II.
