Safaree Samuels Dishes On Nicki Minaj Relationship, Says He Put His ‘Dreams Aside’ For Rapper

Safaree Samuels and Nicki Minaj may have called off their nearly 12-year relationship over a year ago, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t taking some time to reflect on his past romance with the “Anaconda” rapper.

In an interview with Ebony entitled, “Safaree Samuels on How to Date a Strong-Willed Woman,” Samuels opens up about how he learned to be both supportive and submissive in his relationship with Nicki Minaj.

Safaree explains that while he has always been a supportive person both in and out of relationships, Minaj’s ex reveals that he had to put his “dreams aside” in order to “play the role of the supportive boyfriend” to Nicki Minaj.

Similarly, Safaree admits that “to be a submissive man, you have to have a submissive bone in your body. The relationship isn’t going to work out for the man who has a short fuse or can’t handle being told what to do.”

Nicki Minaj’s former boyfriend further explains that men tend to look for women who they can shape to suit their own lives, but Safaree argues that this is difficult to achieve when dating a strong-minded woman like Nicki Minaj.

“If you’re going to be with her, you have to be okay with her running the show at times.”

While Safaree admits that he was satisfied with being submissive to Nicki Minaj and her career, it was recently revealed that Samuels has plans to file a lawsuit against Nicki for unpaid credits on some of Minaj’s biggest albums, including The Pinkprint, Pink Friday, and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.

According to TMZ, Safaree is also going after a cut of Nicki Minaj’s biggest singles including her collaboration with Chris Brown, Drake, and Lil Wayne for “Only” and her collaboration with Beyoncé for “Feeling Myself” and “Flawless (Remix).”

Sources close to Safaree Samuels further revealed to the site that Safaree has proof that he was involved in the creation of each of Nicki Minaj’s most successful projects, including videos of himself working alongside Minaj in the studio and voice memos and video footage from Nicki’s various studio sessions.

While Nicki Minaj previously gave Safaree Samuels executive producer credit on her first two albums, sources close to Safaree argue that the rapper was heavily involved in the making of Minaj’s most recent works and feels that he should be compensated accordingly.

Despite Nicki Minaj’s decision to remain mum on Safaree’s “imminent” lawsuit regarding unpaid credits on her most famous albums, Minaj previously bashed her ex-boyfriend after Samuels claimed to have ghostwritten some of Nicki’s raps on The Pinkprint.

Just days after Nicki Minaj’s current boyfriend, Meek Mill, lashed out at Drake on Twitter by accusing Minaj’s label mate of using a ghostwriter, Safaree spoke out to remind fans that he was heavily involved in the writing process for Minaj’s most recent album.

In response to Safaree Samuels’ ghostwriting claims, Minaj bashed her former longtime boyfriend during a concert stop for her The Pinkprint tour earlier this summer by telling fans that Safaree “don’t have the heart, or the mind frame, or the mother******* intellect” to write her raps, E! News reports.

Safaree continues to stand by his ghostwriting claims and even pushed the subject further in his “Lifeline” diss track aimed at Nicki Minaj in which Samuels raps, “My bars on The Pinkprint, no one’ll ever match.”

While he admits that he had to put his dreams of being a rapper aside in order to support Nicki Minaj’s career, Safaree is currently working on putting out a new album while also teasing his plans to release a book in the future.

Safaree Samuels took to Instagram to share with fans, “Fyi I might as well tell yall now but I am writing a book and have been the past month,” while promoting his new interview with Ebony.
