‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12 — Does Martin Henderson’s Dr. Nathan Riggs’ Mysterious Past Include Owen?

As Grey’s Anatomy’s 12 season continues to develop, fans were recently introduced to a mysterious doctor who may have a troubled past with Owen. Although April (Sarah Drew) seemed to be pleased with Nathan’s (Martin Henderson) appearance at Grey Sloan Memorial, it does not seem as though Owen (Kevin McKidd) shared similar sentiments.

According to the International Business Times, Nathan and Owen have a mysterious past that creates a lot of conflict between the two characters in the coming episode. Exactly what this past connection entails is unknown, but it was clear that Owen did not like the idea of Nathan being at the hospital.

That being said, it is possible that the two may have had some issues that date back to their military days. This would make sense given Owen’s past military experience. It would also help explain his reaction to Nathan’s sudden appearance and how viewers are unaware of the history together.

At the same time, Nathan’s involvement at the hospital includes the boy he brought in for treatment during the last episode. While the doctors continue to treat the boy, it appears as though Nathan may be set to join the staff at the hospital.

In fact, Design & Trend is reporting that Maggie (Kelly McCreary) confronts Nathan after she sees him caring for a patient at the hospital.

“You might want to get your feet wet before you dive in,” Maggie is seen telling Nathan in the promo trailer.

Although it isn’t unknown how the doctors will end up handling the tension between Owen and Nathan, it is clear that Owen will not be taking the situation very lightly. With that in mind, the two are set for a major confrontation in the coming episode that has the potential to turn ugly.

Owen’s upcoming confrontation with Nathan lines up with what McKidd recently told TV Line. In the interview, McKidd revealed that “somebody comes along during the season from Owen’s past” who “ignites a lot of things in Owen and causes real problems for him.”

Along with McKidd’s comments, Henderson has also discussed the issues between their characters. In fact, the actor confirmed that the two share a troubled past together that will be explored in the coming episodes.

Apparently, this past includes Nathan doing something to Owen that caused him a lot of pain and grief. Although Henderson did not go into detail concerning the matter, he did state that his character hurt something that was very dear to Owen’s heart. Exactly what happened between the two will hopefully be revealed in the coming installment.

Elsewhere, the official synopsis for the episode reveals that the drama between Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben (Jason George) is sure to ramp up after the former asks Ben to kick Jackson (Jesse Williams) out of their house. Jackson has been living with the two following his huge argument with April and is not likely to take his eviction very well.

Meanwhile, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) will finally be putting herself back into the dating world following Penny (Samantha Sloyan) and Callie’s (Sara Ramirez) announcement that they are now together. Apparently, Arizona won’t be venturing out alone, as she has a new wingman to help her out. Hopefully, this turns out well for Arizona as she tried to move on with her life.

All the while, the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial will be concentrating on the case of a longtime patient who has huge implications.

Fans can watch all the drama unfold when the next episode of Grey’s Anatomy, titled “Something Against You,” airs Thursday night on ABC.
