Joey And Rory Update: Joey Feeks Says Goodbye To Her Daughters

Country singer Joey Feek is battling cancer, and in a sad update, her husband, Rory, is sharing that she just told their daughters goodbye. On their blog This Life I Live, he revealed how Joey Feek is dealing with what is going on and felt like telling her daughters goodbye was the right thing to do. Rory started out sharing about the day they got married and how Rory took on his two daughters as her own.

“When we got married in 2002, Joey not only took on my name, she also took on my two teenage daughters, Heidi and Hopie as her own. At the alter, in front of God, the preacher and the whole congregation, Joey and I exchanged rings. After I put a ring on her finger, she slipped one on mine. Then she called the girls up and gently slid a ring on their fingers too… a symbol of her commitment to them, like her commitment to me.”

Rory explained that his daughters do not call Joey mom, but in their phones it simply says “mom” under Joey’s phone number. Rory says that the girls never gave up on Joey, and she never gave up on them even though they all hard some hard times over the years. They are obviously very close, and Joey is their mom.

At this time, Joey and Rory are spending time with Joey’s family. She is not feeling very well and has been sleeping a lot. After spending over a week in the house, Joey came outside with their two oldest daughters and sat them down. Joey talked to the girls, telling them how proud of them she is and even telling these girls goodbye because they do know that the end is near. Joey also talked to them about the day that they will all meet again in Heaven. Rory then went on to explain that Joey will always live on.

“About that time, Joey’s mama and little sister Jessie and her kids came by pushing Indy in her stroller for a walk down the country lane in front of the house. They were singing and laughing and having a ball.

“And the conversation on the swing turned from tears to joy. From the porch we all smiled because we knew in that instant, that no matter what happens, Joey will always be with us. She’ll be in our little Indiana’s smile… and in our hearts forever.”

At this time, Joey and Rory are still not sharing how long the doctors gave Joey to live, but things are not looking good for her. Taste of Country shared that the couple decided to stop treatment for her cancer. Joey Feek went through surgery, chemo, and radiation, but the doctors explained that there is nothing left that science can do for them. They went home, but Rory explained that it was to live what was left of her life and not to die. They threw away the calendar and are taking things one day at a time.
