Gwen Stefani Opens Up About Divorce From Gavin Rossdale, Says ‘I Wanted To Be In My Bed, Crying’

The news of Gwen Stefani’s divorce from Gavin Rossdale was as shocking as it was abrupt, and now the 46-year-old judge of The Voice is talking about the experience.

On Monday, Stefani gave her first interview about the divorce to Amp Radio on Mornings with Carson Daly. During the interview, Stefani said that her “life basically blew up in (her) face,” but as it turns out, that wasn’t such a bad thing.

“My life basically blew up in my face and so I’m in this new life and it’s pretty awesome, I have to say. Everything just feels new. I just feel inspired. I don’t know how else to describe it.”

Stefani went on to say that it took her a while to get to a place where she felt good about the split. Initially, the “Used to Love You” singer simply wanted to cry, she said.

“On the way into the studio the first time, I didn’t want to go. I wanted to be in my bed, like crying. And I did, I cried all the way down to Santa Monica, driving to Santa Monica, and I was like, ‘What am I doing? Why am I doing this?'”

During the interview with Carson Daly, Gwen Stefani seemed at times to be a bit uncomfortable discussing the topic, as she joked with the radio host about the intensity of the interview.

When Daly asked Stefani if her divorce had been the inspiration for any of the songs on her new album, she quickly responded with a quip before going on to explain that her life had been dramatically turned upside down.

“You just said the D-word on the radio! … This is like, way more intense that I thought it was gonna be. I don’t know. I’m just trying to explain it to everyone that this is crazy what’s happening to me. Everybody that hears a song, and I don’t have anything to hide. Everybody knows what my life was like before I was married. Could you imagine what my life is like now? It’s crazy!”

After the split from Rossdale, Stefani said she spent eight weeks writing 19 songs for her upcoming album. Stefani and Rossdale were married for more than 13 years.

In the months since her August split from Gavin Rossdale, Gwen Stefani has been at the center of rumors which indicate that she may be dating her fellow Voice judge and co-star, Blake Shelton. Like Stefani, Shelton also split from his significant other, Miranda Lambert, during the summer.

Recent rumors about a potential Blake-Gwen pairing were bolstered in October when the two were seen at a Halloween party holding hands and engaging in “hot PDA,” according to Hollywood Life.

E! Online also reported on the Halloween PDA, writing that Gwen and Blake attended two parties together: First, they spent time at George Clooney’s party, where they weren’t handsy, according to the news outlet. After that, they both showed up at Jared Leto’s party, where they were seen holding hands.

It would make sense that the two Voice judges would lean on one another, given the fact that both Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are going through similar things in life. According to E! Online’s source, the pair have been flirty on the set, as well.

“They are definitely flirty on the set and you can see they have fun together. There is something going on between them and they have spent time together off set. They don’t want to label anything or define it, they just really like each other and happen to be going through similar things in their lives. Gwen has spent time at Blake’s house in the Hollywood Hills recently. They want it to stay under the radar and not make it a big public thing because who knows what will happen.”
