Virginia Man Sentenced to 525 Years in Prison for Child Molesting

40 year old Billy Burch was sentenced to a total of 525 years in prison on June 5th for repeated sex crimes against a child.

In March 2009, Burch was convicted by a jury of multiple sex crimes against a child from the time she was 5 years old until after she turned 10. From Fredericksburg.com:

The girl testified that Burch performed countless sex acts on her and often took her to motels when she rode with him in his tow truck.

The girl said she never told her mother what was going on because Burch threatened to hurt her whole family if she did.

The abuse continued after the girl’s family and Burch moved back to Maryland. It finally stopped when the child was about 12 and her family moved away from Burch.

The girl came forward and told her mother about the abuse after a class she had attended at her school gave her the courage to do so. Her mother then notified the police, who set up a sting operation by phone. The girl called Burch to discuss their previous encounters and detectives recorded the call, in which Burch made statements indicating his involvement in the sexual assaults.

A judge sentenced Burch to 485 years in prison yesterday. Burch was also sentenced to 40 years by another judge in Maryland in connection with the same crimes, meaning he will have to spend the next 525 years in prison.
