Sarah Jessica Parker Doesn’t Know Anything About A ‘Hocus Pocus’ Sequel

Is a Hocus Pocus sequel coming? It seems as though every year around this time rumors start up about a possible Hocus Pocus sequel, but is this the year where we’re going to get a confirmation? Don’t hold your breath!

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker said she had no clue about whether or not there was a sequel floating around at Disney. The actress told Vulture of the rumors, “I think it’s just on the World Wide Web. We’ve all been exchanging funny, not-reality-based messages to one another. [That’s] as much as I know.”

As for her co-stars — Bette Midler, who played the lead Sanderson sister in the popular Disney film, tweeted about the only thing stopping the sequel from happening, which of course got people talking again.

Kathy Najimy also commented about the rumored sequel, while jokingly scolding her co-star about getting everyone excited again.

As stated, this isn’t the only time Hocus Pocus has been brought up in recent conversation. As the Inquisitr reported, Walt Disney wanted to cash in on the nostaliga by creating a stage show of the production for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

The Disney Parks Blog released a statement back in May about the decision to bring a stage version.

“With the help of the Disney villains, Winifred, Mary and Sarah gather together sinister shadows, nefarious nightmares and the power of their frightful friends to conjure the ultimate Hocus Pocus Party Potion and cast a spell on everyone in the Magic Kingdom Park. ‘Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular’ features appearances by Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, Maleficent and other great Disney villains, along with dancers, projections and special effects that combine to make this new show a not-to-be-missed Halloween treat.”

Although we don’t know much about a sequel, it seems like Bette Midler is up to reprise her role as Winifred Sanderson. While conducting a Reddit AMA, she was asked about Hocus Pocus, and she took the opportunity to encourage fans to write Disney.

“Inundate the Disney company. Because I have canvassed the girls and they are wiling to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a ‘Hocus Pocus 2,’ ask the Walt Disney company.”

At one point, the rumors were so strong that it resulted in a hoax that a sequel was coming at the hands of Tina Fey. Originally, it was reported that the spin-off would take place a few years after the original film, and would center around a stay-at-home mother who joins a witch hunter to battle the coven of new evil witches. This story turned out to be fake but it still got fans excited for a possible sequel.

Four months ago Bette Midler was still carrying the torch for her beloved 1993 film. During a concert in Phoenix, Arizona she commented about the sequel, “I’m ready for my sequel, Mr. Disney.”

If Disney wanted a sequel, it would make sense. Although it wasn’t a hit at the box office, the movie took on a life of its own, thanks to the constant repeats and the holiday viewings. As it is, in 2011 a showing of the film took in 2.8 million. That said, with no official announcement from Disney, this sequel looks pretty dormant.
