‘The Flash’ Season 2: Teddy Sears Talks Earth-2, Harrison Wells, And Regaining His Speed

With only two episodes under its belt, the second season of The Flash has already introduced a number of exciting developments. From learning about alternate universes and Earth-2 to Cisco having more powers and characters coming back from the dead, this season is really starting off strong. With so much going down in the first two installments, what can fans expect to see develop as the season progresses?

One of the main focus points in the second episode, “The Flash of Two Worlds,” was seeing Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) alive and well on Earth-2. In regards to the interaction between Wells and Jay Garrick, Teddy Sears recently sat down with ET and discussed how the show will develop their history.

“Oh, they have history! They definitely have history, which we’ll be fleshing out in the episodes to come — not many episodes from now, actually. That’s all I’ll say,” Sears revealed. “They certainly know one another because prior to Jay getting the speed force, he was a prominent scientist and Harrison Wells is in that community as well. He’s also a known figure on Earth-2 because of that, so we’re going to be fleshing that out as we move forward, but he absolutely knows Harrison Wells.”

As to whether or not fans can expect to see Garrick gain back his super speed ability, Sears stated that he is hopeful it will happen.

“Oh God, I hope so! I’m not sure what the writes have in store honestly, and as an actor I try not to ask too many questions,” he explained. “They hand me a script and I say, ‘Oh, cool! This is what I’m doing this week!’ but I hope so.”

Meanwhile, with multiple universes and Earth-2 now in the mix, Aaron and Todd Helbing discussed the possibility of a future visit to Earth-2 in an interview with E! Online.

“I think since we introduce Earth-2, there’s always a possibility we’ll go there. Not necessarily early on but you’ll see more of it, yes,” Aaron stated.

At the same time, another thing to keep an eye on this season is Cisco’s expanding powers on The Flash. Since Wells was the person who gave him these new abilities, Cisco is more than a little leery of his newfound powers.

“Wells gave this power to him and Wells was very evil so he’s just a little freaked out,” Todd explained. “I think as the season goes on you’ll start to see him deal with that problem of, ‘How do I tell these guys? When do I tell them?’ And then sort of figure out this power that he has and how to control it more.”

Elsewhere, another exciting part of the new season has been the return of Francine West (Vanessa Williams). Why has Francine decided to return at this moment in time? According to Todd, her reasons center on a need to reunite her family.

“She came back to see her daughter and reestablish this family that she once had,” he recently told Entertainment Weekly. “Iris obviously has this conception about her mother and her being away from her her whole life. I’m sure you can imagine that learning that is not the case could turn your whole world upside down. That’s the jumping off point she’s going to be struggling with.”

Lastly, is Garrick finally ready to find romance this season with Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker)? According to Sears, this may be a possibility.

“There’s a connection that these two have, sort of an instant comfort level, that wonderful thing you don’t get with too many people in life, that I believe these two experience,” he stated. “They’re going to explore that a little bit.”

Season 2 of The Flash continues Tuesday nights on The CW.
