Jamie Sangouthai’s Father Speaks Out, Claims Lamar Odom Had A ‘Death Wish’ After His Best Friend’s Heroin Death

Jamie Sangouthai’s father has spoken out about Lamar Odom in a new interview. In light of Odom’s recent drug-related hospitalization, Guillermo Castillo has revealed Odom was likely impacted by the recent death of Jamie Sangouthai, his best friend since childhood.

“I think Lamar is done. I think most of it is because he missed my son so much,” Castillo told the New York Daily News during a phone interview on Thursday, which was reported on October 16. “I think deep inside they had a death wish, or a wish to die together. It sounds very cold-blooded, but I have a hard time controlling my emotions. They were so close. They went through a lot together — very powerful and beautiful times together.”

Jamie Sangouthai was seen on a number of episodes of Khloe & Lamar, which followed the marriage of Odom and his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian. Throughout the series and after, Jamie Sangouthai was close to Kardashian, as well as her friends on the show, Maliqa and Khadijah Haqq. He was also close to Rob Kardashian, who recently was said to have come out of hiding to send his well-wishes to Odom as he remains in a coma at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.

Following the end of Khloe & Lamar, Jamie Sangouthai stepped out of the spotlight, along with Odom, and sadly, in June, the man who served as Odom’s best man during his wedding to Kardashian died in Los Angeles from a flesh-eating bacteria, necrotizing fasciitis, which is directly linked to heroin use.

Once Odom discovered the devastating news of Jamie Sangouthai’s passing, he called Castillo and said he was sorry for his loss. In turn, Castillo advised Odom to walk away from everything because “Hollywood is going to eat you up,” but, unfortunately, Odom didn’t listen.

Jamie Sangouthai’s father went on to shut down any blame that has been put on Kardashian because of Odom’s current state. After Odom was found unconscious at a brothel in Las Vegas, many reports claimed his troubles were the result of a recent episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, in which Jamie Sangouthai’s death was discussed.

“I think she really loved him, and I don’t think she could have done any other thing,” the father of Jamie Sangouthai explained. “But I’m also sure, 200 percent, that everybody saw the signs that Lamar needed serious help. Did anyone say, ‘Hey Lamar, let’s go to a rehab center. We’re going to try to save you so you don’t end up like Jamie.’ Did anybody do that?”

Prior to his death, according to his father, Jamie Sangouthai had gotten hooked on painkillers following a major surgery on his abdomen and later battled an addiction to heroin addiction. A year and a half before his death, Jamie Sangouthai attempted to kick the addiction by entering a rehab center, but sadly, he was unable.

“I said to my son, ‘You’re lost in life. You’re 37 and extremely smart, so what is it going to take for you to walk away?’ I tried to talk to him, but he went back, and I knew that he wasn’t going to get better,” Castillo recalled of his late son, Jamie Sangouthai. “Then in June they found him on the street with an infection from dirty needles or bad heroin. The doctor told me to say goodbye because he only had a 5 percent chance of living.”
