During the summer season, K-pop groups usually stage their comebacks. This year, two such groups to return to the music scene are Sistar and Wonder Girls. For the former, they released a mini-album, which featured their popular hit “Shake It,” a song that truly showed off the derriere assets of Hyolyn, Bora, Soyu, and Dasom. For the latter, it was truly a comeback, with the release of Reboot, an album that re-branded the Wonder Girls as a four-member band consisting of Yubin, Yeeun, Sunmi, and Hyerim. Not only that, they went a different creative direction by reminiscing on 80s music, as shown in their hit song “I Feel You.”
In their own way, both K-pop groups were successful in their own way. But now the summer season is over, and each member of said groups must move on to fulfill any solo endeavors before they make another comeback as soon as 2016. For Hyolyn of Sistar and Yubin of Wonder Girls, their respective solo endeavors will cause them to cross paths since both signed on to partake in Unpretty Rapstar 2. And just recently, both of them went face-to-face in a diss battle.
Before diving into the actual diss battle both K-pop idols had, it should be noted both Kim Hyo Jung (better known as Hyolyn or Hyorin) and Kim Yu Bin (better known as Yubin or Yoobin) received a lot of attention for being added to the contestant roster for Unpretty Rapstar 2, as reported by Korea Times. Apparently, one of the major reasons why both of them were included is because this current season wanted to concentrate on individuals considered “undiscovered talents” pertaining to rap. Ergo, the show fits well for both Hyolyn and Yubin. For Yubin, she is the lead rapper of Wonder Girls, but, because of what they perform, she is unable to really showcase her skills. Hyolyn is the biggest surprise because she isn’t known for rapping. Even in Sistar, Bora is officially the rapper of the group.
Anyways, both Hyolyn and Yubin are contestants in Unpretty Rapstar 2, and they’ve recently garnered the K-pop community’s attention when they both had a diss battle. The video of their showdown is attached below for viewing.
Both K-pop idols really got into it as they ribbed each other hard. According to KpopStarz, Yubin began the battle claiming Hyolyn could not write lyrics and rhymes. However, the biggest diss Yubin dished out was the following line.
“Congrats on finally succeeding after getting kicked out of JYP, try to figure out what the reason was. I’ll make you fall, parachuter.”
For those who do not know why such a line is a ruthless jab to Hyolyn, it is because she originally auditioned for JYP (which so happens to be the label Wonder Girls is signed to). She had to audition twice before being accepted by winning first place at the audition. Eventually, Hyolyn was supposed to debut in a group consisting of Jieun (who is now in Secret), Hani (who is now in EXID), and Uji (who is now in Beastie). Unfortunately, plans for their debut were cancelled which caused her to leave the label for “personal reasons.”
Despite Yubin’s ruthless jab, Hyolyn stayed strong as she fired back with lyrics of her own, which actually surprised many viewers. As a matter of fact, Hyolyn was able to keep her composure against the veteran rapper. Unfortunately for Yubin, she messed up her lyrics, a mistake taken into consideration for the final evaluation. In the end, Hyolyn actually beat Yubin in which she won the opportunity to be on an upcoming track with Korean rappers Dok2 and The Quiett.
Unpretty Rapstar 2 airs on Fridays at 11 p.m. KST on CJ E&M’s music channel Mnet. Unfortunately, none of the major streaming sites that cater to Korean shows (DramaFever and Viki) air the spin-off of Show Me The Money. However, highlights can be found on YouTube.
