George Clooney And Amal One Year Anniversary: A Look Back On Their First Year Of Marriage

George Clooney and his wife have officially been married for a year now. It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since we watched the world’s most eligible bachelor marry a beautiful and accomplished human rights attorney named Amal Alamuddin.

It was a star-studded Venetian affair but when all the wedding hoopla died down, the Clooneys settled down to a quiet life together in their villa in Italy, according to People Magazine. They’ve also opened their home to a couple of very high-profile guests like Edward Norton and Julia Roberts.

The couple have date nights just likes lots of other married folk, Paolo Quarantotto, who owns Il Gatto Nero restaurant in Cernobbio revealed as much to People.

“They have small romantic gestures for each other,” Paolo said. “Amal will reach out often to caress his face, and he never forgets to offer a forkful of whatever he has ordered for her to taste.”

Their anniversary falls during a busy time for both Amal and George. Amal is currently defending former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed has been jailed on terrorism charge and was sentenced to 13 years in prison after a very questionable trial.

Amal describes the detention as “arbitrary and in violation of international law,” in a statement written published in The Guardian.

“President Nasheed’s unjust imprisonment has led to the largest protest movement in Maldivian history, and protesters have in turn been added to the list of political prisoners in the country,” she continued. “My co-counsel and I will continue to pursue all legal and diplomatic strategies to secure our client’s release, including through the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.”

Amal Clooney’s co-counsel in this case, Mahfooz Saheed, was stabbed in the head in early September, according to The Daily Mail. He was lucky to escape with his life.

Looks like George Clooney may be a little bit worried about Amal’s safety given what happened to her colleague.

“It’s tough when they’re stabbing her co-counselor [defense lawyer Mahfooz Saeed] in the head a couple days before she gets there,” Clooney said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “It’s a little nerve-racking. But she’s doing the right thing and she’s doing it for the right reasons.”

George is currently working on his own projects too. He was last seen promoting a movie called Our Brand is Crisis which he produced. Based on a documentary of the same name, the film stars Sandra Bullock, a U.S. campaign strategist who’s hired by a South American presidential candidate.
