‘Gambit’ Movie Release Date Delayed: Production Issues And Lack Of Director To Blame?

The Gambit movie release date may be delayed until 2017. For the moment, production issues are to blame for the setback.

Other reasons could be the fact that the film’s previous director, Rupert Wyatt, has stepped down from his role at the helm, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. Wyatt has claimed that with delays already happening, work on the Gambit movie would conflict with another project of his.

“I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”

With no one yet having stepped forward, the film could be in jeopardy.

The same thing happened with Transformers 5, which is still believed to be in production. The Inquisitr also reports that Michael Bay might be stepping back into the director’s chair on that one, if nobody else takes it.

The lack of a director aside, the cost of the Gambit film is reportedly rising. After the dismal earnings and reviews of Fantastic Four this year, Fox appears to be looking for an approach that works. Since Bryan Singer is already set to direct X-Men: Apocalypse and make it his last film in the franchise, it could conflict with him possibly taking additional reigns in time for the Gambit movie release date.

Ironically, even though star Channing Tatum had, at one point, dropped out of the film, he is one of the only remaining elements. Some fans of the film series might take this as a bad sign, citing his allegedly poor acting range. However, rumors such as one from Geek have stated that the actor is working on his Cajun accent to help in the role if he’s going to be keeping it over the next decade.

Hollywood Reporter claims that as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character exits the franchise, Channing Tatum’s Gambit could take his place. Fans will need to see some incredible acting to convince them this will work, and Fox is attempting to make sure they see it.

With Tatum locked in, there is a lot to work to ensure Gambit will be the breakout hit that Fox is betting on to keep them afloat for ten more years. As previously stated, one cause of the delay in the Gambit movie release date is because Fox is attempting to rewrite the script after the failure of the last Fantastic Four.

Venture Capital Post says the film is approaching a cost close to that of X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is a serious gamble. The Fantastic Four reboot was a similar gamble which didn’t pay off for Fox.

There is the very real possibility that with Fox Studios pushing to retain the rights to the X-Men franchise, they may be killing the genre. In a previous report by the Inquisitr, the failure of the Fantastic Four reboot along with their persistence in making the Gambit movie may be simply digging the studio’s proverbial superhero grave. This possible delay in the Gambit movie release date may only be making it worse.

As Fox Studios prepares to bid a bittersweet farewell to Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman after their next X-Men films, the search for a new director is pressing. The last time Gambit was in a movie, it was one of their biggest failures, and now two of the characters from the flop are getting reboots of their own.

Thankfully, it appears Deadpool is moving in the right direction.

Will the Gambit movie release date delay help give Fox Studios the time to get it right, or will Channing Tatum’s superhero role be as short-lived as that of Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth?
