Hayden Christensen may once more grace the screen as Anakin Skywalker, as reports suggest he will return in future Star Wars films as Sith lord Darth Vader.
Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens was first announced, fans have speculated that Vader could be making a return to the series in some capacity. New reports from Making Star Wars, however, suggest that actor Hayden Christensen, who famously appeared as Anakin Skywalker in the much-maligned prequel trilogy, may be returning to the role once again for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is currently filming.

In a new article, Making Star Wars Editor-in-Chief Jason Ward relates the rumor directly as it was told to him.
“A team in the U.K. are soon heading to the U.S. to begin training Hayden Christensen for a Star Wars: Episode VIII appearance of some sort.”
Ward points out that Christensen is still physically fit, so if he were to appear in the next Star Wars film as the Force ghost of Anakin Skywalker, there would be little need for training. This in turn suggests that should Christensen appear in Episode VIII, he may do so in an action sequence, which could hint at either a flashback or some type of “resurrection of Darth Vader story idea.”

It has previously been reported that Darth Vader will return in Star Wars: Rogue One, which takes place during a time in the saga when the Sith lord was very much still alive and terrorizing the galaxy. Rogue One is also currently filming, and while it has not been confirmed that Vader will appear in the movie, new reports assert that a fully functional chest piece, along with the character’s iconic, samurai-inspired helmet, have made their way into Rogue One’s “creature shop.” It is unclear whether they are on hand for inspiration or as part of the production process, as IGN notes, but Ward also points out that should Vader appear in an action sequence in Rogue One, multiple suits would be required. Previous reports have suggested, however, that Vader will have a limited role (at best) in the film.

Fans will no doubt wonder how Hayden Christensen could possibly return to the role of Darth Vader, yet it remains to be seen what the actual truth behind these latest Star Wars rumors really is.
