One Million Moms Group Slams ‘Muppets’ Show, Claims ABC ‘Ruined’ Them
The Muppets is apparently not a “family-friendly” show, according to the claims of a family values group.
The group, known as One Million Moms (or 1MM), targeted The Muppets in a lengthy statement published on its official website Friday.
“There are going to be a lot of shocked moms and dads when they discover that the family-friendly Muppets of the 1970s are no more. It appears that no subject is off limits. ABC’s new Muppet Show…is not what Jim Henson imagined and created. The new show is aimed at a mature, modern audience and addresses subjects not suitable for family viewing.”
The website further dissected some of the clips, according to Time, that ABC used to promote the show long before its highly-anticipated premiere.
“‘It’s sort of an adult Muppet show,’ Kermit the Frog said during a promotional video for the show. One ad read, ‘Finally, a network TV show with full frontal nudity.’ Technically, the advertisement is correct – seeing how Kermit doesn’t wear pants.”
According to the group’s report, ABC hopes that “children watch the show” and “enjoy some of the humor.” However, One Million Moms apparently disagrees with that hope.
“It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined ‘The Muppets.’ How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children?”
To conclude its lengthy statement, the family values group urged people to spread the word about the show – informing as many parents and families about it as possible before they were exposed to the show’s “perverted nature too late.” 1MM even included a three-step action plan – (1) Call ABC, (2) Connect with ABC and (3) E-mail ABC – “to strongly encourage the network to drop all plans to air the program.”
Quite a few people responded to One Million Moms’ response and reaction to ABC’s new series, The Muppets.
Some applauded the family values group for taking a stand against the show.
I applaud the group One Million Moms for speaking out against the new Muppets and urging parents to call on ABC to take it off the air.

Others simply did not feel that way about The Muppets series at all.
Let’s show One Million Moms that bullying Muppets is not okay. http://t.co/hLLkiV7AR2

There were even some that experienced an opposite reaction by wanting to watch The Muppets even more because of One Million Moms.
Well, that just makes me want to watch it more | One Million Moms slam new @TheMuppets show as “perverted” http://t.co/bKiewoYFTx

ABC apparently did not listen to the requests made by One Million Moms, because the series premiere of The Muppets aired on Tuesday night as scheduled.
