On The Bachelor, Jade Roper introduced Chris Soules to her family and opened up to him about her Playboy past, only to be left brokenhearted shortly afterwards. So what did her family think of her going on the spin-off Bachelor in Paradise and the news that she not only met someone special, but is now engaged to him after several weeks of filming the show in Mexico? In an interview with Live Well Nebraska, posted on Tuesday, Jade talked about her parents’ reaction to her engagement to Tanner Tolbert. She also revealed a scene that she, Tanner, Carly Waddell, and Kirk DeWindt filmed that was edited out of Bachelor in Paradise.
On the season finale episode that aired last Monday, Tanner proposed to Jade and she said yes without hesitation. Jade said that Tanner actually asked for her dad’s blessing after filming ended and that her parents, although surprised, are happy that she has finally found the right person.
“I think they were super surprised. After filming, Tanner asked my dad for his blessing. My parents have been waiting awhile for me to find that right person. I loved that they were able to experience our love story and watch it happen.”
Both Tanner and Jade grew up in the Midwest, Jade in Nebraska and Tanner in Kansas. Jade believes that their common upbringing is one of the things that brought them and keeps them together.
“I like to think living in the Midwest, you have certain principles and values in the way you live your life. That is one of the things that attracted me to Tanner (who lives in the Midwest) – he’s very grounded. Living in L.A., you don’t meet people like that. He was very familiar and comforting to me.”
While Jade Roper left Bachelor in Paradise engaged to Tanner Tolbert, her good friend Carly Waddell left brokenhearted. After immediately hitting it off with Kirk DeWindt and being practically attached to him for all of the weeks of filming, Kirk, prior to the final rose ceremony, told Carly that he wasn’t sure about the relationship. Upon hearing this, Carly told Kirk that she hates him, feels as if he tricked her and that she never wants to see or talk to him ever again.
Jade told Live Well Nebraska that she, Tanner, Carly, and Kirk actually had a double date together while filming the show. Hinting at what was to come, Jade and Tanner beat out Carly and Kirk when it came to how well they knew one another.
“Kirk (another contestant on the show) and Tanner planned a double date for me and Carly. They set up champagne and fruit and put together questions, like from The Dating Game, to see which couple knew each other best. We schooled Kirk and Carly. That told me Tanner was listening to our conversations; he was invested, and he cared. He really wanted to get to know me.”
Viewers saw Jade, who was in tears herself, comfort Carly after she was dumped. The two, who met on The Bachelor, are now very good friends, as evidenced by their constant photos on social media and tweets to and about one another. Jade admitted that she made the mistake of not prioritizing her female friendships in the past.
“I think I’ve done that in the past; you get too wrapped up in the relationship and you lose your friends, and you lose sight of yourself sometimes. Now that I’m in my late 20s, I realize (friendships) are something I need in my life to be whole as a person and to be able to contribute to my relationship. Men can’t fulfill some of those things that girlfriends can. Carly is a very special person, and she has the biggest heart. I got very fortunate to find a friendship like that.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Carly Waddell congratulated Jade and Tanner on their engagement immediately after the Bachelor in Paradise finale aired. Another person who expressed her happiness for them was Kaitlyn Bristowe, who competed with Jade on The Bachelor and then met Tanner when she was the star of The Bachelorette. Tanner in turn thanked Kaitlyn for rejecting him and sending him on the path to meet Jade.
Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert have already decided where they’ll be living. Jade recently tweeted that she’ll be making the move to Tanner’s city of Kansas City.
