Honolulu Has Nation’s Worst Traffic


Think your morning commute is bad? Do you live in Honolulu? A new study released by INRIX shows that Honolulu has the nation’s worst traffic.

According to the report, drivers in Honolulu sat in traffic for 58 hours last year.

But overall, the congestion on American roads is decreasing. But that isn’t necessarily a good thing. The report states that unemployment, coupled with the rising price of gas, has caused traffic congestion to dip in 70 of America’s 100 most populated cities. So yes, the roads were less crowded in 2011. But it’s only because people couldn’t afford to drive.

Here are the 10 worst cities for traffic.

  1. Honolulu: Drivers waste 58 hours in traffic; Worst Hour
  2. Los Angeles: Drivers waste 56 hours in traffic; Worst Hour
  3. San Francisco: Drivers waste 48 hours in traffic; Worst Hour
  4. New York: Drivers waste 57 hours in traffic; Worst Hour
  5. Bridgeport, CT: Drivers waste 42 hours in traffic; Worst Hour
  6. Washington, D.C.: Drivers waste 45 hours in traffic
  7. Seattle: Drivers waste 33 hours in traffic
  8. Austin: Drivers waste 30 hours in traffic
  9. Boston: Drivers waste 35 hours in traffic
  10. Chicago: Drivers waste 36 hours in traffic

The study also broke down some other components of United States traffic.

The worst day to drive is Friday. The worst morning commute is on Tuesday. The worst evening commute is Friday. The overall worst time to drive is between 5-6p.m.

The study also found that the best time to day to drive is on Monday. The best morning commute is Friday. The best evening commute is Monday. And the best time is between 6-7 a.m.
