‘Destiny’ VIP Rewards Released Early And You Should Delete Them, Says Bungie

The release of Destiny: The Taken King experienced another hiccup Monday night ahead of the expansions release early Tuesday morning. The VIP Rewards for Year One players became available early unexpectedly, but doing so breaks one of the new Quests that players will experience at launch. Bungie provided directions on how to fix it.

The Destiny VIP Rewards are available to players who bought the game plus its first two DLC releases – The Dark Below and House of Wolves. They are also available for any players that reached light level 30 regardless of DLC purchase. However, the items showing up early has a somewhat negative affect on the game and Bungie suggests deleting them.

“Players who have already collected their Year One VIP rewards will find that they cannot progress the “Veteran’s Tour” quest beyond the “Talk to Eva Lavante” step. The shader reward cannot be accepted, and attempting to select the reward will show “Can only hold one at a time.” To complete the “Veteran’s Tour,” players will need to delete/discard the following items from their inventory in order to accept rewards:

  • “The Old Guard” Shader
  • “Be Brave” Emblem
  • “S-34 Ravensteel” Sparrow

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience”

This is in addition to a handful of issues that was discovered with the release of the Destiny 2.0 update last week. Bungie also released hotfix 2.0.0.2 Monday to fix issues with items received as part of The Taken King Collector’s Edition.

General

Fixed issues with Taken King Collector’s Edition items:

– Armor awards can now be found in the correct portion of the Postmaster’s interface
– Packages now produce the correct item even if opened by a different class
– Players who might have been affected by this issue will be provided the correct armor piece

All PlayStation and Xbox owners of Destiny essentially downloaded The Taken King with the 2.0 update. However, another patch is planned for Tuesday that will unlock all of the content from the expansion plus make a few additional changes.

Bungie and Activision are offering several different ways to purchase The Taken King. The expansion alone can be purchased for $39.99 by those who already own Destiny plus The Dark Below and House of Wolves DLC. Everyone else can pick up the Legendary Edition that comes with the base game, the two DLC, and The Taken King for $59.99, either digitally from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store or as a physical disk from retailers.

There is also the Collector’s Edition for $79.99 that comes with all of the content from the Legendary Edition plus physical and digital extras such as new shaders and gestures. The digital extras will be available as a separate $20 purchase for those who don’t want to purchase the Collector’s Edition.
