‘Steven Universe’ Teases Real Beginning And New Gem Villains, Season 3 Retrieves Rose’s Sword

Steven Universe is starting to get a really good following not only from children, but from adults as well. Steven Universe fans will be happy to know that after a short hiatus, Steven Universe is back on Cartoon Network this September.

If you’re a Steven Universe fan, then you might have noticed that Cartoon Network just officially posted the extended opening song for Steven Universe on their website, along with other episodes and trailers. First seen during the San Diego Comic-Con, the extended opening of Steven Universe teases a couple of things that fans will be delighted to watch.

First up, a younger Steven Universe is seen on the extended opening clip. Episode 1 of Steven Universe was actually an episode in medias res, an episode that is already at the middle of the cartoon’s plot timeline. It brings little insight about how Steven started training under the three crystal gems, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. However, the new extended opening clip gives us a peek of Steven in his younger days, when his father and the crystal gems are just starting to build their house as seen in the regular episodes of Steven Universe.

Steven is seen wearing an oversized version of his shirt while trying to learn the ukulele from his father, a more soft-spoken trio of gems, and steps for the first time inside his new home with Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl.

The Steven Universe extended opening clip also gives Steven Universe fans a peek into the world’s villains, some already seen in previous episodes. Yellow Diamond, the leader of the evil gem pack with members Peridot and Jasper, finally makes an appearance, albeit just a shadow appearance. Hopefully, more of her will be seen this season of Steven Universe.

Whether we are seeing more of Steven Universe’ earlier timeline scenes or more information about Steven or his mother, Rose, we will just have to wait. Steven Universe Season 3 will be back on our screens this September 10 with new episode, “Nightmare Hospital.”

Newsarama was the first to reveal information about the Steven Universe episode “Nightmare Hospital,” where Connie and Steven sneak into a hospital to retrieve Rose’s sword. Based on the preview released on YouTube by the World of Steven Universe, it seems Steven and Connie were successful in retrieving Rose’s huge, pink sword, signaling the start of Connie’s sword-wielding days.

Connie’s sword-wielding will certainly be another major point in the Steven Universe plot, as she is even seen in the updated Steven Universe extended opening clip brandishing Rose’s sword.

Steven Universe is a critically-acclaimed cartoon on Cartoon Network from Adventure Time creator Rebecca Sugar. While both cartoons share some similar themes and songs, Steven Universe is fast becoming a favorite by both children and adults. Steven Bomb is dropping on September 10 at 5:30 p.m. EST, with a re-run on September 12 at 1 p.m. EST.
