Hunt For Nazi Gold Train Results In The Discovery Of A WWII Tunnel

On Wednesday, a local official of the southwestern district of Walbrzych in Poland revealed that they received confirmation on the location of a WWII tunnel. The railway tunnel, according to the statement, is a “multi-level complex of underground corridors from the days of the WWII.”

When asked by CNBC if the new discovery has led to additional information on the Nazi gold train or another cache of WWII loot, the official refused to give a direct answer. CNBC, however, received notification that Jacek Cichura, Walbrzych District Head, will appear before members of the press to discuss matters pertaining to the new discovery.

The Walbrzych District Council statement released on Wednesday supports the claims of the Gazeta Wroclawska that a two kilometer-long tunnel has been found in the area. According to the newspaper, sources have revealed that the WWII tunnel had been discovered by the same fortune hunters that came forward claiming to have found the buried Nazi gold train last month.

In August, the treasure hunters Andreas Richter and Piotr Koper came forward with claims that they have knowledge of the exact location of the Nazi gold train believed to be filled to the brim with gold, diamonds and other precious gems. Through their lawyer, Jaroslaw Chmielewski, the treasure hunters said they would reveal the train’s location once authorities agree to the 10 percent finders fee that they are asking for.

The news of the Nazi gold train’s discovery spread like wildfire, starting a gold rush fever that attracted fortune hunters across Europe. Treasure hunters have flocked to Walbrzych and some even embarked on secret treasure hunts. On Tuesday, a tragic accident that happened during a treasure hunt in a municipal cemetery claimed the life of one person. A 39-year-old treasure hunter died on the spot after falling into a pit believed to be several meters in height when he and two of his colleagues tried to break into an old tomb in their search of the fabled Nazi gold train.

In what appears to be a concerted effort to calm the frenzy, Jaroslaw Chmielewski, the appointed lawyer of the treasure hunters who initially came forward with claims of the Nazi gold train’s discovery, told TVN24 that the train probably just contains valuable minerals and not gold.

Members of the Polish military who conducted an inspection of the site believed to be the location of the Nazi gold train, said the area needs to be cleared of shrubs and trees before excavations can be started.
