Bruno Mars In Talks To Perform At Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show [Video]
Bruno Mars is in talks to perform at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show in Santa Clara, California.
According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly, the “Uptown Funk” singer has been asked to return to the Super Bowl stage for the event’s golden anniversary.
This isn’t the first time Bruno Mars has been asked to perform during the football game. He previously headlined the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show in 2014 with a guest appearance from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Before Katy Perry’s performance this year, which drew 121 million viewers, his was the most-watched halftime show of all time, with over 115 million viewers. Perry’s performance, with guests Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz, topped Bruno Mars’ show 3.2 million viewers. Her performance included her hit songs “Roar,” “Dark Horse,” “California Gurls,” and “Firework.”

Bruno Mars has also been asked by the National Football League to “curate” the program, which means he would presumably have a hand in inviting others to come aboard the show. Mars would be the first repeat headliner since Gloria Estefan, who performed in 1992 and 1999. Nelly appeared as a guest with both Aerosmith in 2001 and Janet Jackson in 2004.
“Myself and our producer, Ricky Kirshner, were both personal fans of Bruno and had seen him in concert and knew what he could do,” she said. “And it was a lot of just telling folks here and getting folks excited about Bruno and taking them to shows and letting them see what he could do. And that’s kind of what got it going,” the NFL director of media events Sarah Moll said during a December 2014 interview.
Currenly, reps for Mars and the NFL have not immediately respond to EW’s request for a comment.
According to Billboard, the Super Bowl halftime shows have been tracked sine 1991, when New Kids on the Block became the first group to appear in the NFL championship game. Other past performers include Boyz II Men, U2, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, The Who, Madonna and Beyonce.

Super Bowl 50 will take place February 7, 2016 at at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
