McDonald’s: Cage-Free Eggs Will Be Used In All Canadian And U.S. Locations By 2025
McDonalds’ eggs will be replaced with the cage-free variety at all Canadian and U.S. locations over the next 10 years. The change is part of the fast-food giant’s ongoing campaign to remain competitive in the industry and increase sales.
As reported by Fox News, approximately one percent of McDonalds’ eggs are currently purchased from cage-free sources. However, company officials are working toward raising the numbers — with the goal of 100 percent by 2025.

North American supply chain president, Marion Gross, confirmed McDonald’s “is working with its existing egg suppliers to convert housing systems for hens.”
In an official statement, McDonald’s USA President Mike Andres said the decision to switch to cage-free eggs underlines the company’s dedication to increasing the quality of their products.
“Our customers are increasingly interested in knowing more about their food and where it comes from… Our decision to source only cage-free eggs reinforces the focus we place on food quality and our menu to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.”
As reported by USA Today, McDonald’s has also committed to switching to chickens raised with fewer antibiotics. The change is expected to take place nationwide by 2017.
McDonald’s eggs may become one of their most popular menu items, as the fast-food giant recently announced plans to offer all-day breakfast.
As reported by ABC13, McDonald’s all-day breakfast menu will vary by location. However, all locations are expected to offer a limited variety of breakfast sandwiches.

McDonald’s all-day breakfast and the use of healthier products are expected to appeal to customer requests and therefore increase sales.

As other fast-food companies have focused on healthier options, McDonald’s experienced a disturbing reduction in sales. CEO Steve Easterbrook, who replaced Don Thompson in March, said he is committed to making McDonald’s “modern, progressive burger company.”
Easterbrook’s vision includes healthier and tastier options, in addition to a more efficient menu.
In the last five months, the fast food giant streamlined their lunch and dinner menus. McDonald’s also made changes to their existing products to offer customers better tasting and fresher food.
The changes to McDonalds’ eggs and chicken will take several years. However, the fast-food giant is committed to offering customers healthier options.
