Ashton Kutcher Returning to Punk’d

Ashton Kutcher, the original creator and show runner behind the MTV show Punk’d is making his return to the prankster show, which was recently rebooted by MTV and their new generation of punkers, including Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

The new Punk’d is a bit different than the first go around, featuring guest punkers instead of one person taking the reigns on all the punking. While Kutcher still holds his place in the creative process behind the reboot, there was no word that he would be making a guest appearance until now. The special episode with Kutcher reprising his role as the punker will air on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 8 pm as part of the pre-programming before the MTV Movie Awards.

According to MTV the two identities of the people Ashton plans to punk are huge names in the industry, and those names will be revealed in the near future. Of the special episode, MTV promises that Kutcher’s hijinks will be unparalleled, stating, “Fans will see some of the most elaborate and outrageous punks only the master himself could pull off.”

Of the rebooted show, Kutcher sat down in a roundtable interview before the show premiered and explained how they have more opportunities now more than ever to get the ball rolling on a whole new set of punkers, “There’s a whole new crop of talented stars, celebrities, entertainers and athletes that weren’t even around when we were shooting the show.” His producing partner Jason Goldberg, the second mastermind behind the show and many of Kutcher’s projects went on to explain, “It’s fresh thinking. It’s a different way to approach the show. Justin’s show is so different from Bam’s show, but both work. It’s their thinking and their vision for it.”
Ashton Kutcher created the show in 2003 and its original five year run, showcased Kutcher and then unknown actor Dax Shepherd punking Kutcher’s famous friends. Notable people punked at the time included Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis, Zach Braff, and Ellen Pompeo.
