Rihanna and Lewis Hamilton may be spending a lot of time together recently, but are they actually dating?
While Rihanna continues to remain mum regarding the rumors surrounding her alleged romance with the Formula One driver, Hamilton is dishing on the status of his relationship with Rihanna.
In an interview with E! News during last night’s MTV Video Music Awards red carpet, Hamilton responds to reports that suggest he and Rihanna are officially an item.
“You know, I’ve known Rih for a long time,” Hamilton explains, “We’ve been friends for a while. We get to hang out every now and again.”
When asked if he and Rihanna are officially an item, Hamilton shuts down romance rumors by admitting, “We’re just friends.”
Rumors of the duo’s alleged romance ignited earlier this month after Rihanna and Hamilton were spotted partying it up in the singer’s native Barbados for the island’s annual carnival.
While reports at the time began suggesting that Rihanna and Hamilton are officially together, sources close to Rihanna shut down rumors by suggesting that the songstress is still “keeping her options open” when it comes to her dating life.
“She is not at any point in her life now ready to settle just for anyone, but she is enjoying the time she has with her friends and also focusing on work.”
The source continues, “She is taking it very slow and just having fun, but she likes who [Hamilton] is and what he is about,” noting that there is “no label on them just yet.”
The news comes just weeks after Rihanna put NBA star Matt Barnes on blast for suggesting that he has an ongoing relationship with the “Diamonds” singer.
In an interview with TMZ, Barnes seemingly confirmed his more-than-friends status with Rihanna, prompting the Barbadian beauty to publicly diss the athlete in a scathing post on Instagram.
“Rihanna’s my friend right now,” Barnes told the site, “I think it’s just past the crush stage, just a little bit. We’ll see where it goes.”
Just hours after Barnes’ claims made headlines, Rihanna shared a screengrab of Barnes’ interview on Instagram with a not-so-subtle message to anyone trying to use her for their own publicity, Us Weekly reports.
“#bishwhere #thedevilisaliar #shesnotthatintoyou #shesnotintoyouatall #shesneverevenmetyou #thisactuallyhurtmyfeelings #defamationofcharacter,” Rihanna captioned her response to Barnes.
While Rihanna and Hamilton may not have made anything official as of yet, sources close to the songstress tell Gossip Cop that Rih called out Barnes for fear that his dating claims would “mess things up” in her budding romance to Hamilton.
The source alleges that Rihanna was “seriously mad” over Barnes’ dating claims because she doesn’t want the “bulls***” dating rumors “derailing a possible budding relationship with Lewis Hamilton.”
