Xbox One Adds Elite Bundle With 1TB SSHD, New Lunar White Controller Announced
Microsoft announced a pricey new Xbox One Elite Bundle Monday that’s geared to the most hardcore of gamers with a top-of-the-line controller and hard drive. Meanwhile, GameStop will be the exclusive store offering a sexy new white, gold, and black Xbox One controller.
The Xbox One Elite Bundle will launch this November for $499 exclusive at GameStop and Microsoft Stores. It will pack in the $150 Elite controller with a 1TB solid-state hybrid hard drive (SSHD). That means the drive uses a flash solid-state drive to act as a cache for data stored on a traditional hard drive to improve performance.
According to Microsoft, the inclusion of the SSHD “optimizes system performance so you can get to the action up to 20 percent faster from energy-saving mode.” The added benefit is the cost for a 1TB SSHD is closer to a traditional hard drive than a pure SSD that currently runs for hundreds of dollars more.
Meanwhile, the Xbox One Elite controller included in the bundle is geared towards competitive gamers who are looking for top-of-the-line performance. It features interchangeable paddles that can be placed on the underside of the controller via magnets. These paddles replicate the face buttons to ensure that players never have to take their thumbs off the thumbsticks. The controller also comes with hair trigger locks and a swappable d-pad. Finally, owners will be able to customize the controller layout using the Xbox Accessories app to set button assignments as they wish.
If you aren’t ready to drop $150 on a performance-level controller, the sleek looking Xbox One Special Edition Lunar White controller will be an option. It is a GameStop exclusive that will sell for $64.99 starting at the end of September.
The controller comes with all the trimmings from the recent Xbox One controller refresh. This includes a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack, improved bumpers, and the ability to update the controller firmware wirelessly instead of plugged into the console via a USB cable. Microsoft also boasts the new Lunar White controller features “improved grip texture for more control and comfort.”
It’s hard to describe the Xbox One as anything other than bundle happy currently. In addition to the Elite bundle announced today, there is the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition bundle, Madden NFL 16 bundle, Forza Motorsport 5 Limited Edition bundle, and a Halo 5: Guardians Limited Edition bundle.
