Character customization through skins is a staple of Minecraft that allows for a wide array of option. While Minecraft: Story Mode for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and mobile devices won’t quite go to the same extremes, Telltale Games announced Friday it is allowing players choose from male and female Jesses of different colors.
Minecraft: Story Mode will be the first episodic adventure game from Telltale that allows players to choose their character’s appearance. Male and female characters of different colors will be available to choose from, along with what looks like different options for clothing, as well.
Patton Oswalt voices the male version of Jesse, as previously covered for Inquisitr. However, a female version of the character means a female voice actor, too, with veteran Catherine Taber cast in the role. She has lent her voice to game and animated TV shows since 2003, and most recently took on Princess Leia from the Star Wars sets for Disney Infinity 3.0.
Minecraft: Story Mode is done in the style of many of the Minecraft Machinima videos you see on YouTube, judging by the trailer. That works for the animation style needed to pull off Telltale’s genre of choice and consequence games.
In addition to Patton Oswalt and Catherine Taber as Jesse, there’s also the following impressive list of voice actors from video games, TV, and movies.
- Brian Posehn (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Surf’s Up)
- Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, Tales from the Borderlands)
- Scott Porter (Batman: Arkham Knight, Speed Racer)
- Martha Plimpton (The Goonies, The Good Wife)
- Dave Fennoy (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us)
- Corey Feldman (The Goonies, Stand By Me)
- Billy West (Futurama, Adventure Time)
- Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, The Nightmare Before Christmas)
Minecraft: Story Mode was first announced at Minecon in December, 2014, with plans for a five-episode run to land this fall. Here’s the official description of the game.
“Players will control protagonist Jesse throughout the season, as portrayed by actor Patton Oswalt. Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order is the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong … something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.”
