Miley Cyrus Has ‘Free Rein,’ Promises A ‘Raw’ MTV Video Music Awards

Miley Cyrus is gearing up for a wild and raucous time at the MTV Video Music Awards. More details are coming out about the annual music award show — and it’s guaranteed to be a crazy time.

With Miley Cyrus in the room, it’s kind of hard to escape the crazy. The 22-year-old entertainer is going to host this Sunday’s MTV VMAs. Now it’s being revealed that Cyrus has “free rein” over the televised event, which means that anything can happen. MTV’s executive producer Garrett English told Entertainment Weekly that they’re giving Cyrus complete control of the show.

“We’re giving her pretty [much] free rein. Obviously there are standards and various other things that were always a part of it, but no [rules]…It never comes from a place of trying to limit the range, it’s always coming from a place of trying to open up the full palate.”

While some would think that giving Cyrus complete control of VMAs sounds like a horrible idea, English says that the “Wrecking Ball” singer has brought a lot to the table.

“Miley has been fantastic. It was sort of a logical extension of conversations that we’re happening. Both her camp and ours were immediately excited by it.”

The Happy Hippie founder and creator promises a “raw” and “psychedelic” time. Miley promises that the MTV Video Music Awards won’t be like any other.

“I didn’t want this VMAs to be like they’ve been in the past. Last year there wasn’t even a host, so there was no energy.”

She’s already counting down to the big day. Cyrus shared a new selfie of herself wearing rabbit ears and dreadlocks as she smokes a big joint. She captioned the photo: “Starting my own countdown lol!!!! #4daze #tillVMAzzzz”

Even though she put some “z’s” in her caption, she promises that it won’t be a boring time. Don’t expect Miley to crack any jokes though. She says that she’s not there to do stand-up. Fans will have to wait for Miley to show off her comedic side as she hosts Saturday Night Live for the third time, this coming September.

“I’m not a stand-up. That’s what it always feels like – like everything’s flopping and dying out there. So my intro is fun skits.”

According to Cyrus, Seth Rogen and Jen Stark are working on the introduction. She teased that she’s going to create her wacky and wild Instagram page, which has been creating its share of headlines in the past few months. Cyrus says that she just wants to let “people into my world.”

Miley may have slammed Taylor Swift for her “Bad Blood” video. And she most recently slammed Nicki Minaj for making the 2015 MTV VMAs about herself, but she admits that she’s not familiar with the nominees. The singer revealed that she doesn’t listen to mainstream music or own a TV.

“I don’t really know many of these [music videos nominated]. I don’t really listen to this music. I’m probably the most disconnected host in history. I don’t have TV. I have Apple TV.”

Miley Cyrus will take the stage as she hosts the MTV Video Music Awards this coming Sunday, August 30, at 9 p.m. EST. Will you be checking to see how Cyrus handles the award show?
