Katherine Jenkins Suffers Back Injury During Salsa Routine in DWTS Semifinals [Video]

Katherine Jenkins’ dream of winning Dancing With the Stars looks like it could be in jeopardy after the opera singer suffered a painful back injury during the show’s semifinals Sunday night.

Towards the end of her salsa routine — the singer’s second competition number on the evening — with partner Mark Ballas, Jenkins stumbled and fell to the ground. Though she quickly got up, and tried to finish the number, it was clear that she was in pain as fans could see her wincing and taking deep breaths.

Katherine then broke down in tears, covering her hands with her face and shaking as her dance partner tried to calm her down.

Backstage, the tearful Welsh star explained, “I just felt my back go as I bent back. I’m so sorry if I’ve let you down, Mark.”

Host Tom Bergeron said she was going to get “medical attention” as soon as the show went off the air.

Despite the problems during their salsa routine, Jenkins and Ballas still managed to tally up a total of 27 out of 30 from judges Len Goodmanm, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, who each gave the couple a score of 9 for their efforts.

Afterward, Ballas apologized via Twitter that they were unable to finish their dance.

“sry guys we couldn’t finish R dance. Katherine hurt her back, I tried my best not let her fall at the end,” he wrote, adding that he hoped fans would still vote them into next week’s finale.

After visiting a medic, Jenkins also updated her fans about her injury in a tweet, saying:

“Thank you for all your concerned tweets… I’m with the Doctor, he says it was a reflectorical spasm in my lower back.”
