Pop star Selena Gomez is headed to NBC to join The Voice in the show’s ninth season on air. As confirmed on the The Voice‘s official Twitter account, Gomez will join artist Gwen Stefani’s team as an advisor.
Gomez joins a long list of musical stars that are slated to contribute to the singing series this fall. As confirmed by Variety, John Fogarty will play adviser to Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine’s team. Country star Brad Paisley will mentor Blake Shelton’s team. As for Team Pharrell, the R&B artist is still in search for a mentor to join his team. Also on board for Season 9 is Rihanna, who will serve as the key adviser.
In celebration of The Voice’s premiere, Selena Gomez and Gwen Stefani sat down to speak with Access Hollywood about their upcoming collaboration. When asked about her decision to join Team Stefani, Gomez praised the No Doubt front woman for her creativity, among other things.
“I always feel like when I’m in the presence of someone older than me, I have this respect and I love that I can learn. I want to learn from people, I want to be around women who are, you know, nurturing and care and smart and creative,” Gomez said.
In turn, Stefani had nothing but great things to say about the 23-year-old pop singer who has grown up in the spotlight, both in the music world and on TV.
“It’s just incredible to me to think of somebody that’s been doing it since they were a child. The dedication and the years that she’s put in, and to [not] only be so young, but have so much experience, is kind of incredible. This year, Gomez also has plans to join Taylor Swift onstage during one of her many stops on her 1989 World Tour. Gomez, who recently spoke about Swift’s priceless support and inspiration as a friend, is rumored to be joining Swift sometime in late August during the Los Angeles leg of her tour.
