Arizona Inmate Jacob Harvey Pleads Guilty To Stabbing Prison Teacher In Head With A Pen Before Raping Her

Arizona inmate Jacob Harvey, 21, pleaded guilty on Monday at Pinal County Superior Court to stabbing his prison teacher with a pen before slamming her to the ground and raping her, according to the New York Daily News. The attack occurred on January 30, 2014, at the Eyman prison’s Meadows Unit after the unidentified teacher, 34, administered a high school equivalency test to about six inmates.

When the test was over, all inmates exited the classroom except Harvey, who stayed behind to ask the teacher to unlock the restroom. As she was doing so, the inmate stabbed the teacher in the head with a pen, slammed her to the ground, and began raping her.

The prison teacher desperately screamed for helped, but no one came to her rescue as the classroom she taught in didn’t have any guards or cameras. She was only given a radio to contact prison guards, but it was no use as she later uncovered that it had been switched to a “channel that guards didn’t use.”

According to the prison teacher’s interview, Harvey allowed her to use a phone to call for help after raping and attacking her, reported CBS News.

Before the attack, Harvey was serving a 30-year sentence after raping a Glendale, Arizona, woman in November 2011. At the age of 17, the rapist knocked on a random apartment door and asked the woman who answered the door for a drink of water. He then forced his way into her apartment and began raping her several times while her 2-year-old child was in the home.

When Harvey heard the unidentified woman’s roommate return to the home, he fled the scene naked. DNA evidence later connected him to the sexual assault crime and he pled guilty.

After the horrifying prison attack, the teacher says she now needs therapy and has difficulties sleeping at night. The woman plans to sue the Department of Corrections and claims that the prison director, Charles Ryan, “allowed lax training, staffing shortages and poor security at the prison.”

The Arizona inmate pleaded guilty to stabbing his prison teacher in the head with a pen before slamming her to the ground and raping her.

Spokeswoman Tiffany Davila says that “Harvey faces up to life in prison on the rape charge alone when he’s sentenced next month.” However, his “new sentence won’t start until his current term ends in 2041.”
