Liz Carmouche Set To Rumble Against Raquel Pennington At ‘UFC 191: Johnson Vs. Dodson 2’

UFC has been on a roll as of late, with the success of their last two pay-per-views. At UFC 189: Mendes vs. McGregor, fans were treated to a main card in which every match was stellar. Besides the entertainment value “The Notorious” Conor McGregor brought to the main event, most agree the fight of the night belonged to Robbie Lawler and Rory McDonald. Then, at UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia, Ronda Rousey delivered another phenomenal performance as she knocked out Bethe Correia in 34 seconds.

Given the fact the aforementioned UFC pay-per-views went beyond what it was supposed to deliver in some fashion or form, there is possible tension for the promotion to continue momentum into UFC 191: Johnson vs. Dodson 2. It seems they are aiming to do so by having other big names like Frank Mir, Anthony Johnson, and Paige VanZant on the card. Now, we can add Liz Carmouche to that list, as she is set to take on Raquel Pennington.

According to Sherdog, a women’s bantamweight fight between Liz Carmouche and Raquel Pennington was added to UFC 191: Johnson vs. Dodson 2. It was officially announced on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, during UFC Tonight.

Liz Carmouche almost defeats Ronda Rousey with a neck crank submission.

For those who don’t remember UFC history, Liz Carmouche is the first woman to step inside the Octagon when she took on Ronda Rousey in the promotion’s first women’s bout during UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche, as reported by MMA Junkie. Not only that, Carmouche is probably the only woman to put Rousey in danger of losing with that insane neck crank submission. In the end, Carmouche lost in typical Rousey fashion, tapping out to an armbar.

Nevertheless, this upcoming bout isn’t Liz Carmouche’s chance to gun for Ronda Rousey’s title, but to come out on top with her current record. Right now, “Girl-Rilla” is even with two wins and two losses after her fight with Rousey. For Raquel Pennington, this is a chance to come out on top, too, since her record is even, with five wins and losses. In her last fight, “Rocky” lost to “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holly Holm via split decision.

UFC 191: Johnson vs. Dodson 2 will take place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 5, 2015. For those who cannot attend in person, the venue will be available only through pay-per-view.
