Katie Holmes cut her hair in a new look that’s making curly bobs into the hot new trend in celebrity hairstyles. Katie, known for her passion for ponytails, recklessly chopped off her hair for a role in a new film, reported People.

Holmes, who also is directing her latest movie in a daring expansion of her career, went from below-the-shoulder hair to just-below-the-neck bob. Katie’s new film is entitled All We Had.

But once Holmes’ work on the film ends, will her hair go back to its normal lengthy locks?

“I like the versatility of long hair,” Katie confessed prior to cutting it. “I like being able to put it into a ponytail. I’m a ponytail girl.”

Holmes’ decision to shift to short hair may symbolize her new move into directing. In addition to helming a movie for the first time, Katie stars in All We Had, noted the Hollywood Reporter.

The film reveals how a teenager and her mother, played by Holmes, overcome being impoverished. The producer of Little Fockers, Jane Rosenthal, will also produce this film, while the director of The Fault in Our Star Josh Boone will write the script based on Annie Weatherwax’s novel.

“Katie has such a clear vision for the book’s irreverent, original mother-daughter relationship. Her passion for the material, along with Josh Boone’s ability to tell stories grounded in the comedy and drama of every day, will truly bring these characters to life,” said Jane.

Holmes doesn’t just play a mom in the movies. Katie also is the doting mom to Suri Cruise, her daughter with Tom Cruise, and Holmes recently gave Suri a ninth birthday party to remember as the Inquisitr reported.

Suri is crazy about cupcakes, so Holmes concocted a leaning tower of pastry that looked and tasted as sugary as the famous tot desired.

“Katie got an assortment of vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet cupcakes decorated in pink and purple from Georgetown Cupcake SoHo,” revealed a source of the loving mom’s preparations. “Dozens and dozens of cupcakes were placed on cupcake towers for the celebration!”

But daddy Tom Cruise was not at the birthday bash, and reports are revealing that his relationship with Scientology is preventing him from seeing his daughter, according to Entertainment Tonight.

The latest reports about the relationship between Tom and Suri follow the release of HBO’s documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

“My understanding is that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise don’t even speak to each other,” said Piers Morgan. “And she, I believe, is very concerned about the effect of the Church of Scientology on Tom Cruise.”

Tom has released no comments about whether or when he plans to visit his daughter.
