Annie Lennox’s Daughter: Capsize Incident Blamed On Alcohol, Strong Current

The daughter of renowned singer Annie Lennox was involved in a tragic accident when the kayak she was in capsized, and she barely escaped with her life. However, Tali Lennox’s boyfriend wasn’t so lucky and he remains missing and authorities fear he has drowned, Daily Mail reports.

According to People magazine, Lennox’s 22-year-old daughter and her longtime boyfriend, Ian Jones, 32, were kayaking in the Hudson River when they capsized Saturday morning. The incident reportedly occurred just a short distance from Mills Mansion, a historic house near Staatsburg.

Tali was picked up by a boat after the kayak capsized, but, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, her boyfriend is still missing. Neither wore life vests, and fortunately Lennox was uninjured and did not need to go to a hospital.

“They were not wearing life preservers when they fell into the water and were separated,” Capt. John Watterson, of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, said in a press release.

Investigators believe Jones may have drowned and his body is most likely still somewhere in the Hudson River. Watterson says the rescue effort for Ian involved more than 50 people and it lasted until approximately 10 p.m. Saturday, and resumed at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police do not suspect that the accident was intentional but they do believe alcohol and a very strong current may have been factors. Watterson said the search for Ian will continue until further notice and the rescue effort will include a team of at least 50 people, in addition to helicopters and diving equipment to try to locate him.

Although the cause of the accident has not yet been clarified, different media outlets suggest that the force of the river may have been what provoked the accident, but it has also been mentioned that the couple had consumed alcohol before they went kayaking.

Tali Lennox is the youngest daughter of popular Scottish singer, Annie Lennox, and her second husband, Israeli film producer, Uri Fruchtmann. She opened an art exhibition in the city of New York that achieved great success. But before she returned to the art world, Tali had a successful career as a model, posing for brands such as Topshop, Prada, and Miu Miu.

Annie Lennox first became known in the late 1970s after she joined the new wave band, The Tourists. She achieved worldwide fame as half of the Eurythmics, a British music duo made up of Lennox and musician David Stewart. She has won a total of eight Brit Awards, including Best British Female Artist six times, a number that is greater than that of any other female artist.
