Kim Richards’ Family: 5150 Hold Considered To Save Kim Richards’ Life [Report]

Kim Richards’ family is considering putting her on a 5150 hold to prevent her from further harming herself. According to Perez Hilton, the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star is having a very hard time at the moment, and those closest to her worry that she may need to be hospitalized to force her to get help. This report comes just days after Kim Richards was arrested for shoplifting at a Target store in Van Nuys, California.

“A 5150 is basically when someone is hospitalized on an involuntary basis which simply means that they did not sign themselves into the hospital and they cannot sign themselves out. Why this can help certain people is because it keeps them in the hospital longer and helps them to get treated longer,” explained Psychotherapist Dr. Robi Ludwig (via Perez Hilton).

Kim Richards’ family has done a lot to try and support her after she had a relapse and started drinking again after three years of sobriety. Her sisters, Kyle Richards and Kathy Hilton, have both done all they can to help Kim and to give her love, but their efforts haven’t been enough. Reports now indicate that the family is going to take extreme measures in the hope that Kim will turn her life around soon — before it’s too late.

“It’s usually a person who is in a sicker state that ends up in a hospital involuntarily because other people have decided that they can’t make decisions on their own behalf and they usually are considered a danger to themselves or others at least for a period of time,” Dr. Ludwig added.

According to the International Business Times, a 5150 hold would force Kim Richards to get treatment and would forbid her from leaving a facility until she is deemed well enough to care for herself.

Kim Richards’ family has to do what is best for Kim, and that may mean a 5150 hold. As Dr. Ludwig points out, this could make Kim extremely angry, and she could turn her back on her family, but it might be worth it for them if it means that Kim gets better.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there have been rumors that Kim Richards has hit rock bottom. Sources say that she was broke and living out of her car before her shoplifting incident at Target.
