Henry Cavill As James Bond: ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Cast Share Their Thoughts

Henry Cavill as James Bond has been the topic of a lot of discussion among his fans, but now we get to hear what the cast of the spy flick The Man From U.N.C.L.E. think.

For those who are not familiar with the story, imagining Henry Cavill as James Bond is not so far-fetched and the film’s producers thought so as well. In 2005, then-22-year-old Cavill auditioned for the role in Casino Royale, but he lost the part to Daniel Craig because he was too young.

At the time, director Martin Campbell was in favor of Henry Cavill as James Bond; however, the studio won and in the end the part went to Craig, who has been at it for the past 10 years. Despite the disappointment, Cavill was extremely gracious in his praise of the current 007.

“I think it was a good decision, they (the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Faith) made that choice to maintain the trademark and the level of quality of the film, and it worked perfectly. Bond has that type of unique class, and Daniel Craig incarnates it very well. He modernizes the character and shows everything a spy knows how to do while keeping his fantastic ‘coolness’ that every guy dreams to have.”

Talk about Henry Cavill as James Bond is hot again, as The Man From U.N.C.L.E. release comes in a couple of weeks. In the Guy Ritchie film, the 32-year-old British actor plays the Bond-like spy, Napoleon Solo, who is suave, sexy, and definitely a lady’s man.

Henry doesn’t see both roles as similar; the CIA spy he plays in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. doesn’t take himself too seriously and is fun, but has none of the intensity James Bond does. Not that 007 takes himself too seriously, but according to Cavill, “there’s definitely a heavier, more serious angle to him” than with Solo, which was coincidentally created in part by James Bond author Ian Fleming.

But what do his co-stars think about Henry Cavill as James Bond? While speaking to Digital Spy, Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Debicki both agree that it could work very well indeed.

“I think he would make a great Bond. Yeah, I do,” said Debicki, who worked with Cavill closely during The Man From U.N.C.L.E. production. “I think we’ve been asked that question a few times today,” Vikander also gives her co-star her vote.
