Reba McEntire, Narvel Blackstock To Divorce, Melissa Peterman Says Her Friend Is ‘Doing Great’ Following Split

Reba McEntire and her husband of 26 years, Narvel Blackstock, announced on Monday, August 3 that they had decided to call it quits on their relationship and would be filing for divorce.

In a joint statement, McEntire and Blackstock, who is currently Reba’s manager, announced that they had been separated for several months and were not able to work out their issues, CNN reports. However, they will continued to work together as they have for the last nearly four decades.

“Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time,” their statement read.

Reba’s career has spanned more than 30 years and has included both music and television. She rose to fame in the 1980’s with her hits “Can’t Even Get the Blues,” “Somebody Should Leave” and “Walk On,” and then went on to appear in the The WB/The CW sitcom Reba for six seasons, according to Entertainment Tonight.

During ABC’s all-star summer TCA party on Tuesday, August 4, Reba’s pal and former co-star Melissa Peterman said the 60-year-old country singer is doing great following her split from Narvel. Peterman played the part of Barbra Jean Hart, Reba’s ex-husband’s mistress turned wife, on Reba.

“I’ve talked to her and she’s doing great,” Peterman, who currently stars in the ABC Family comedy Baby Daddy, said on the red carpet.

“Beyond what she said in her statement, I love her and I wish her all my love, and that’s all I can say right now,” the 44-year-old actress said of her friend. “I love her.”

According to Us Weekly, Kelly Clarkson, who married Reba’s step-son Brandon Blackstock October 2013 and welcomed a daughter River Rose in June 2014, urged her in-laws to work it out and stay together. In fact, sources say the couple would have split a lot sooner if it hadn’t have been for their daughter-in-law.

“They’ve been living apart for two years,” an insider of the family’s told the magazine. “Kelly urged them not to split and she’s the reason they didn’t split earlier.”

“She was really fighting for them to make it work and stay together,” the insider added.
