Alexander Skarsgard Totally Rocks It In Drag At ‘The Diary Of A Teenage Girl’ Premiere In San Francisco

For True Blood fans, seeing Alexander Skarsgard turn up for the premiere of his latest movie, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, in drag is something new. They are used to seeing Skarsgard in era-appropriate attire as he played the eternal vampire Eric Northman. The actor has done it all — from ancient viking to ’80s video store owner and everything in between. But this is a first: Alexander Skarsgard rocking it out as a Dynasty-inspired drag queen.

But why was he in drag for the premiere of The Diary of a Teenage Girl? Well, to put it in context, many of the cast also got dressed up for the event. There were also several other drag queens present at the premiere that took place at Castro in San Francisco, a local haunt for awesome drag queen shows. As well as some spectacular queens, there was also a lot of ’70s lapels, extreme false eyelashes, and wide headbands on display although all fell to the wayside with Alexander Skarsgard standing at 6 foot 4 inches — and that’s before the hair and heels!

It was unclear as to why Skarsgard chose to go in drag rather than don the ’70s pornstache he wore in the movie. As E! pointed out, co-star Joshua Grannell is a drag performer (who goes by the name of Peaches Christ) and plays a transvestite in the film, so it could very well be a nod to this actor. However, this is not the first time Alexander Skarsgard has donned a frock. In the 2006 Swedish film Kill Your Darlings, Alexander played a transvestite called Geert. As you can see from the image below, though, his night out in drag for The Diary of a Teenage Girl is a definite improvement.

So how did Alexander Skarsgard go about transforming himself into an Amazon version of Farah Fawcett? Alexander Skarsgård Affiliated Sites showed the transformation on their Facebook page. The images were taken by Steven Underhill & Mercedez Munro.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl stars Bel Powley in the title role as a 15-year-old girl who loses her virginity to her mother’s (Kristen Wiig) boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgard). What follows is her journey into adulthood via her sexual conquests. The movie is based on Phoebe Gloeckner’s 2002 novel. The film is already being heralded for portraying the touchy subject matter without objectifying Bel Powley’s character.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl will play in selected cinemas from August 7, 2015.
