Are fans of the former NBC show ready to say goodbye to Community again? Star Joel McHale is the first to put the kibosh on Community continuing for a seventh season over at Yahoo.
Although the show could have ended with NBC, instead Yahoo picked up the off-the-wall comedy up with a movie deal. That said, fans shouldn’t expect the series to continue over at Yahoo.
McHale told Metro Weekly, “No. They wanted to. But all of our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception—their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.”
Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs’ stars both rose considerably after Community launched them. Both have went on to star in popular films that made big bank. That said, according to E!, Yahoo might not be over Community completely.
A rep for Yahoo said, “We’ve seen tremendous value in our partnership with Sony and are continuing to discuss future opportunities for Community.”
So far creator Dan Harmon hasn’t commented on whether or not the show is going to return.
As it is, when Community debuted on Yahoo, it was without fan favorite cast members, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and controversial cast mate Chevy Chase, who caused drama behind the scenes. Many of the fans have said that after NBC canceled the show, Community has lost its flair.
According to Deadline, “With the season six finale of Community airing today, we’re continually excited by how much fans are engaging with the series. Now that all episodes are available for binge viewing, stay tuned for how we keep Community delighting its fans.”
One commentor said of season 6, “Season 6 felt stale and boring. 50% of the original cast had left and it felt like a completely different show. Do as abed said all along, six seasons and a movie provided all the original cast return. Otherwise just let it die like Pierce.”

Do you think Community should be renewed over at Yahoo, or is it time to embrace the Community movie?
