Watch bruising rugby action live online when the U.S.A. Eagles national team faces northern rival Canada is a game that not only determines fifth place in the 2015 Pacific Nations Cup tournament, but also serves as an unofficial rugby championship of North America — even though the two teams won just one game between them in their combined six Pacific Nations Cup matches.
The tournament's championship match, pitting Fiji against Samoa, and Bronze Medal game — Tonga vs. Japan — will also be available to watch live online on Monday, the grand finale of the Pacific Nations Cup, which is the final tune-up for all six teams before the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England, which opens on September 18.
To find out how to watch the U.S.A. vs. Canada Pacific Nations Cup Fifth-Place rugby game live online, see the streaming link in the final paragraph of this article. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Pacific Time Monday, August 3, at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada — 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
Canada lost all three of its group stage games, falling to Samoa, Tonga, and Japan. The U.S.A. Eagles played against the same three teams, but managed to pull off a stunning upset victory over Japan, while losing the other two — including a 33-19 domination at the hands of Tonga on Wednesday.
The match against Canada will mark the first time in the tournament that the USA faces a team ranked lower in the World Rugby rankings. The U.S.A. is ranked at Number 12, Canada at Number 18 out of 102 rugby-playing nations.
With the unofficial North American championship on the line, however, a frustrated Canada team is motivated to pull off an upset if their southern neighbors.
"It's great to say 'Oh we played a good game and we were just shy of beating a top-10 team in Samoa.' But at the end of the day we didn't win," Canada fly half Harry Jones said on Sunday. "We need to get those wins. Moving into the World Cup, a 21-20 loss isn't going to cut it. You need to win those close games."
