Snoop Dogg Stopped By Italian Customs After Arrested For Drugs In Sweden

Snoop Dogg had another run-in with European authorities. The rapper was stopped by Italian authorities on Saturday for carrying $422,000 in cash. That’s well above the amount that can be legally transported across European Union borders without being declared.

Snoop Dogg is busy touring Europe after releasing his latest album, Bush, earlier this year. According Snoop’s lawyer, Andrea Parisi, the rapper will have to pay a fine for carrying the unclaimed money. Although the money was illegally transported, there was nothing shady about the amount of money Snoop was carrying with him.

“We clarified everything from a legal point of view. The money came from concerts he had performed around Europe. There was no crime; it was just an administrative infraction.”

Italian authorities took Dogg’s money, but he was able to get half of it back. Snoop Dogg was held up by the Italian authorities until the amount of the money that he was carrying was counted. Those who travel the European Union are required to carry up to 10,000 euros or $11,000 in cash.

This little run-in with the law happened well after a week after Snoop was stopped in Sweden under the suspicion of drug charges. Snoop was held up by authorities after claims that he abused drugs after a concert near Stockholm. The rapper was then questioned and tested for drug use north of the capital. Sweden’s authorities say that the drug test results will not be available for weeks.

On Friday, July 31, it was revealed that Dogg had tested positive for narcotics in the drug test. Christer Nordstrom, spokesperson for Sweden’s Uppsala police, explained the drug testing process to the Local.

“Suspicion that a person is under the influence of drugs sometimes arises when the police are talking to a person. They are taken to the station for physical examination, that is, they have to leave a urine sample. You then use a screening tool called a multi-drug test which, after a few seconds, shows a certain colour and a number of test lines. Two lines indicate the sample is negative and the case is dropped, whereas one line shows that there are traces of something, which results in a suspicion of a crime.”

However, this recent development in the drug test isn’t conclusive enough, and authorities will have to wait for the actual lab test, which will take a few more weeks.

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, exclaims that he was racially profiled, which Swedish police were quick to deny. In a series of Instagram posts, the entertainer explained he was pulled over for no reason.

“All I did was come to this country and did a concert and now I’ve got to go to the police station.”

If both the drug test and lab test results turn out positive, then Snoop will be hit with a criminal charge and must stand trial.

Although Snoop Dogg has been open about his marijuana use over the years, he’s had numerous run-ins with the police over the drug, which is still illegal in most places across the globe and within the United States. Dogg’s most recent incident occurred in July 2012 when he was banned from Norway for two years after possessing eight grams of marijuana, along with almost £18,000 ($28,119) of Norwegian currency.
