‘Big Brother 17’: Will The New HOH Target Shelli And Clay? [Spoilers]

During Thursday night’s episode of Big Brother 17, Jason Roy was evicted. As the episode revealed, the eviction was a blindside, as eight members of the house had united earlier in the week with the intent to backdoor Austin Matelson.

When that’s not what happened, many among those eight who were not members of the “Sixth Sense” alliance quickly deduced it must have been Shelli Poole and Clay Honeycutt who orchestrated Jason’s departure, going back on the plan they themselves had helped hatch.

Vanessa Rousso was ineligible for this week’s Head of Household competition. It is now over, and the house has a new person in power. But will that person aim his sights at Shelli and Clay?

Warning: Spoilers from the Big Brother 17 live feeds to follow.

When the live eviction episode wrapped up Thursday night, 11 houseguests were holding on to a faux-wooden wall while being pelted with water and attacks from fake eagles. According to Big Brother Network, the endurance competition wrapped up just under two hours later. James Huling was the last houseguest standing.

But that doesn’t mean James will seek revenge for the Jason blindside. As happens with most Big Brother endurance competitions, the last few minutes were made up of deals. James, Shelli, and John McGuire were the last three standing. James granted John safety for the week, and he exited the competition. Shelli asked for safety for herself and Clay. Then she dropped.

James’ nominations are expected tomorrow and, as the sole HOH this week, at least one of his nominees is expected to remain on the block. If he holds up his deal with Shelli, the question remains whether he will target Vanessa because she turned on her commitment to get rid of Austin. But since Clay and Shelli backtracked on the eight-member deal that included James, he might feel justified to blindside the power couple.

Marc Snetiker wrote in Entertainment Weekly that Clay and Shelli are the most damaged by the switched-up backdoor plan.

“Was it the right move? For Austin and [Liz], sure, because they don’t know any better, and for Vanessa, maybe, because she can spin better than Susan Sarandon at SoulCycle, but it’s the wrong move for Shelli and Clay—nay, the wrong ‘look,’ as BB17’s resident Gretchen Wieners says—since the power couple believe they’re the first targets under the newly drawn battle lines.”

Likely safe are Meg Maley and Jackie Ibarra, who were equally betrayed by Jason’s eviction. Where Steve Moses and Becky Burgess stand remains to be seen. Another unpredictable element is how James will respond now that both twins, Liz and Julia Nolan, are in the house playing individually.

The next nomination episode of Big Brother 17 will air this Sunday on CBS.
