Justin Bieber Admits Sometimes Struggling With Depression Over New Album

Like many comeback artists before him, Justin Bieber has openly admitted he’s feeling the pressure ahead of dropping his new album, after a three hiatus from releasing a full studio album.

Speaking to Ryan Seacrest to announce his upcoming single “What Do You Mean?” Justin opened up about feeling stressed and depressed while prepping his upcoming album.

The 21-year-old singer explained, “I’ve been working a lot in the studio, just trying to have a consistent sound, a cohesive sound.”

He added, “I get in my head a lot and I get kind of depressed because I want it to work so badly.”

Justin went on, “I want people to love it. I want to inspire people and sometimes I feel like, ‘Is this good enough? Is this the right sound? Is this the direction I want to go?’ I had kind of a rough week last week. I get in my head and I don’t want to get out of bed sometimes.'”

The young icon sounded way more positive talking about the sound of his new single and direction of his new album.

After describing “What Do You Mean?” as “uptempo,” “fun,” “summery,” and “amazing,” he teased his new material as sonically similar to his collaborative song “Where Are Ü Now?” with Jack Ü’s Skrillex and Diplo.

“It’s uplifting, clear, poppy but cool,” said Justin.

Praising Skrillex, the Canadian described the six-time EDM Grammy winner as “a genius, he’s super-futuristic and I just love his sound.” The singer says he intends to “incorporate that sound with what I’m doing” because “it’s new and fresh and I feel like no-one’s done it before.”

The pop star also revealed the meaning behind the title of his forthcoming single, dishing that it’s about what he sees as the confusing nature of females, who he described as “flip-floppy.’ ”

“Well, girls are often just flip-floppy.” Justin confided. “They say something and they mean something else. So… what do you mean? I don’t really know, that’s why I’m asking!’ ”

At the end of the sit-down, the heartthrob said he is “very excited” about his big releases to come and a tour. He added, “It’s stressful but I’m ready.”

Bieber’s worries and sometime depression about his album may be unnecessary. One fan who got the chance to hear some of his new music raved about it to PopCandies TV, and revealed it’s “very powerful” and “very soulful.”

On July 25, the Biebs invited fan Stalker Sarah and other fans into the Los Angeles studio he was working in. Stalker Sarah is well known for her celebrity selfies and has a massive online following.

In the video above, Sarah explains, “Justin came out and brought us in and played us new music… it’s a completely new sound.”

She went on, “I’ve heard a variety of unreleased music and new music. He definitely has a few different sounds.”

Sarah continued, “The stuff he played us was very powerful, very soulful, like very new.” She recalled, “The lyrics were just incredible. We were all tearing up. Like, I’m looking at Justin and he just had his eyes closed, like he was mouthing the words.

“It was a really incredible experience for sure. I loved it,” Sarah went on, adding that when the group left the studio “the sun was coming up,” and summing up the playback as “very moving.”

She also revealed the impromptu listening session took place after the Biebs attended the Special Olympic World Games Opening Ceremony.

Sarah said, “He’d been up for like 48 hours too, he did the Olympics that day, he had a lot going on that day. But he wanted to show it [Bieber’s new music] to us and kind of just get our opinion on it.”

“I love it because he spends all the time in the studio himself,” she enthused, “He’s a real artist when he creates this music himself and goes by his life experiences and everything. That’s why I’ve always had so much respect for him because he’s a true artist.”

Meanwhile, the countdown to “What Do You Mean?” continues and has been posted over at JustinBieber.com. Currently, there are 28 days left before fans can download the song.

We can hardly wait! And neither, evidently, can Bieber’s not-really-look-a-like new BFF — Ruby Rose.
