A brand new promo trailer has been released by ABC concerning the upcoming season of the hit drama Scandal. Although the trailer did not offer any new footage on the coming season, it did make it clear that Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitzgerald Grant's (Tony Goldwyn) relationship would be a focal point in the new season.
In season four of the drama, Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) worked hard to break up Fitzgerald's relationship with Mellie (Bellamy Young) in order to gain a top spot in the White House. By the end of the season finale, Fitz had decided to take Mellie out of the White House as he returned to his past love, Olivia.
Although fans are undoubtedly excited to see Fitz and Olivia finally together, it is clear that there is going to be some complications in their relationship. With their relationship being the focus of the new season, they are definitely going to have some obstacles to overcome if they want to remain together. In particular, Mellie isn't going away for good, and she will likely make things difficult for Fitz, who has the decide whether or not to reveal his new relationship with the press.
Meanwhile, according to TV Line, the opening episode of the new season will introduce a new client for Olivia. Although little details are known about the new client, it has been revealed that the client will be of British Royalty.
At the same time, the new season might see some major changes for Marcus Walker (Cornelius Smith Jr.). Marcus was included in two different episodes in Season 4, and he might be set to become a Gladiator when the drama returns.
According to International Business Times, Marcus has a chance to replace Huck (Guillermo Diaz) as a Gladiator. Huck's status on the team is in jeopardy after everyone learned he worked with Rowan Pope (Joe Morton), who just so happens to be the father of Olivia and the group's main adversary.
Elsewhere, Rossi's character has been upgraded as a regular in the new season. Additionally, Scott Foley, who plays Jack Ballard, will also be included in the new season, though his status as a regular or guest star is still to be determined.
While fans wait to see what becomes of Fitz and Olivia's complicated relationship, season 5 of Scandal is set to air on September 24 on ABC.
