Houston Mom Goes Out To Run Errands, Returns To Find Sons Drowned — Brothers Entangled In Tent
A mom in Houston went out just briefly Thursday night to run errands, leaving her daughter, 12, and two sons Gonzalo, 9, and Alvaro Ramiro, 6, in the care of their nanny.
By the time she got home, her two youngest had drowned.
According to the Houston Chronicle, they had been playing with a camping tent and somehow ended up in the water. Their mother found the brothers in the pool when she returned from her errands; both were unconscious.
Police said that the brothers became entangled when both the tent and camping gear fell, the Associated Press added.
It’s as yet unclear how the tent got into the water in the first place. According to KTRK, it was in the backyard and zipped up, trapping the boys inside when it fell in.
Around 6 p.m., a deputy constable and security guard at the Houston subdivision where the Ramiro family lives was doing paperwork when a young girl approached to report that her brothers were drowning, Click2Houston reported.
He followed her back to her house, where he found them unresponsive. The officer pulled one brother from the pool while the nanny rescued the other. KTRK reported that one child had already been removed by the time the officer arrived.
The constable performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and then they were taken to a Houston hospital. Sadly, the boys were both pronounced dead.
Police are investigating the case, which is the second time children have drowned in a pool in Texas this summer. Late last month, a 10-year-old girl drowned and her brothers were sent to the hospital.
At an apartment building in Dallas in June, a mom was wading in the shallow end with her 3-year-old while her three eldest swam in the deeper end. The children went under at some point, but their mother could only watch — she couldn’t swim, so she called for help. The boys were pulled out and the girl was found later, drowned at the bottom of the deep end.
According to CBS Local, the water was reportedly murky. At last reporting, the children were in the Intensive Care Unit and police were investigating the case.
