The Walkers In Season 6 Of ‘The Walking Dead’ Are Pretty Disgusting

As each season of AMC’s The Walking Dead progresses, so does the deterioration of the zombies — or as the characters calls them, “walkers.” In season 6, fans will get a look at the most rotten form of walkers yet.

In season 1, the walkers were still human like, they may have looked gross and were bloody and damaged, but they still walked more like a drunk human would than a repugnant, damaged piece of undead meat. Some Walking Dead characters were confusing the undead with the living. Clothes were still fairly fresh and the skin and hair of the walkers were more like a bad night out than an extreme adventure in the Southern heat. Take, for example, Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) and his encounter with the little bunny-slippered walker early on in season 1.

By season 2, the characters were starting to come across some walkers that were damaged goods, but there were some that did a fairly good interpretation of severely injured humans. Glenn’s (Steven Yeun) encounter with the water-logged walker at the bottom of the well was the first real advent of seeing Walking Dead walkers caught up in bizarre situations after death. There were still, however, plenty of moments for recently turned walkers to present themselves to the characters.

Season 3 and onward saw more of the degraded walkers we are now used to seeing in The Walking Dead. There were walkers that had been dead for a while now and had entered situations that called for them to be pretty broken up yet still mobile. Fans started to see more of the unique sorts of Walking Dead walkers that were caught up in situations like hangings and walkers being strung up by their own intestines. The extent of damage to clothes, skin and hair were good indicators from a distance that the undead were approaching.

Now, in season 6 of The Walking Dead, AMC has released the first images of some truly disturbing walkers. While the first image is not so bad, the second image is particularly gross. And, as UnrealityTV pointed out, it will be interesting to see the comparison between the decay of the season 6 walkers and the fresh new zombies that will appear in AMC’s Companion series to The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead.

The first shows a close up of a walker. Walking Dead fans can see the degradation of the flesh on the walkers face. Teeth are exposed, the skin is dry like the walker has been slowly dehydrating in the heat. Interestingly, there appears to be some sort of small white flecks — possibly paper — on the walker. This could be nothing, or it could be an indicator of something that occurs in season 6 of The Walking Dead.

The second image is truly gross. A walker is standing by a tree. It has nowhere to go as its intestines are wrapped around the tree. So many intriguing points are raised by this image. Did the walker snag itself on the tree, causing its guts to spill out and become tangled. Was it disemboweled beforehand and somehow get ensnared by the tree. Or did someone like the Wolves do this to the walker after it was dead?
