Milwaukee Brewers Trade Rumors: Carlos Gomez, Jean Segura Deals Could Take Place Before MLB Trade Deadline

Milwaukee Brewers trade rumors continue to suggest a Jean Segura deal is coming. Brewers trades including Segura, Carlos Gomez, and Kyle Lohse could actually all take place before the July 31 MLB deadline. A report from Jon Heyman at CBS Sports has confirmed the rumors, especially with highly-touted prospect Orlando Arcia ready to take over at shortstop. The team even has Luis Sardinas coming up behind Arcia, showing a lot of depth at the position for the Brewers.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, it’s possible that a massive “fire sale” could take place in Milwaukee over the next two weeks. Veterans Adam Lind, Gerardo Parra, Kyle Lohse, Fernando Rodriguez, Jonathan Broxton, Aramis Ramirez, and Neal Cotts could also find themselves changing teams. The reality is that the current roster for the Brewers simply isn’t doing much, meaning it might be time for the front office to completely start over. This could be why the team has shown a willingness to part with nearly every player on the 25-man roster.

Coming into Sunday (July 19), the Brewers have a 40-52 record that puts them in last place in the National League Central. It was even worse heading into the All-Star break, but the Brewers have beaten the Pittsburgh Pirates twice over the weekend. With that record, fans should not be surprised about any of the recent Milwaukee Brewers trade rumors, even if some of them include All-Star players. When it comes to difference makers that could yield good results in the trade market, Jean Segura and Carlos Gomez certainly could fit that billing.

By finally showing a willingness to part with Gomez and Segura, the front office in Milwaukee may start receiving a lot of trade offers. The Houston Astros and New York Mets have been scouting Gomez, with the Minnesota Twins also expressing interest in re-acquiring the All-Star outfielder. Offers haven’t been leaked yet, but there are rumors that negotiations may have already opened. In regard to Segura, it is less clear which teams might be interested, but it’s certainly possible the New York Yankees could take a long look.

During the 2014 MLB season, Carlos Gomez hit .284 with 23 home runs, 73 RBIs, 95 runs scored, and 34 stolen bases. In the 2013 MLB season, Jean Segura hit .294 with 42 extra base hits and 44 stolen bases. Both players have made the All-Star team and could add a lot to a new team. Segura has the speed to steal 50 bases if he can get on consistently, while Gomez provides power, speed, and a stellar glove in the outfield.

While the most likely players to get dealt and the most-often mentioned in Milwaukee Brewers trade rumors are Kyle Lohse, Fernando Rodriguez, Jonathan Broxton, Aramis Ramirez, the team could look to make several package deals before the deadline. It looks to be a busy few weeks for Brewers fans, with the potential that the team could acquire pieces to make the future look a little brighter.
