Minion Toy Saves Girl: 5-Year-Old Survives Fall From Building Thanks To Toy Cushioning Fall

A Minion toy may have saved the life of a little girl in Colorado Springs. An unnamed 5-year-old girl was playing in her bedroom, too close to an open window. Suddenly, the youngster took what could have been a fatal tumble.

CBS Denver reports that the little girl was holding on to a Minion toy when she accidentally fell backward out of an apartment window on Thursday night. It was of the soft, plush variety of franchise toys, which made a huge difference. Police said the fact that the youngster kept a tight grip on the soft item helped cushion her body from a potentially deadly impact.

The girl fell three stories to the ground, and police say the toy helped save her life. Unfortunately, the child didn’t entirely escape injury. According to reports, the 5-year-old was treated for a broken arm at an area hospital. She has since been released.

The yellow Minion plush toy is based on the characters from the popular Despicable Me franchise. The movies’ Minion characters were recently featured in their own spin-off, simply titled Minions. As such, toys related to the film characters have been very popular recently.

Well, not entirely.

Fast food chain McDonald’s came under fire over their Minions toys. McDonald’s featured the incoherent yellow creatures as part of their Happy Meals, as is common for new movies aimed at kids. The dolls are said to “talk” and respond to one another. It’s not the interactive nature of the Miions that’s upsetting; apparently one of the toys sounds like it’s swearing.

Although McDonald’s insists that the Minion isn’t of the foul-mouthed variety of toy, enough parents are convinced that item be removed from circulation or fixed so that its babbling doesn’t sound like an expletive.

At least one family is grateful that it passed on getting the small plastic figures and opted for a big soft doll. The story of a Minion toy saving a child’s life sounds incredible, but it’s rather unsurprising when you consider how a cushioned impact works. The child was holding the doll and likely fell at an angle where the Minion toy protected her vital organs from severe injury. Although the girl suffered a broken arm (probably from holding on to the toy), things could have been much worse without that cushioning in vital areas.

Minions, a prequel to the Despicable Me movies, is currently playing in theaters.
